Company will showcase 2.5" Optimus 1.6TB SAS SSD with sustained transfer rate of 1GB/s and will make a new technology announcement at the Show
SMART Storage Systems, an innovative and rapidly emerging enterprise solid-state drive (SSD) technology provider, will showcase the industry's highest performing, largest capacity enterprise-class SSD at SNW Europe, Frankfurt, October 30-31st 2012.
Available with up to 1.6TB of useable capacity, the SMART Storage Systems Optimus Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) 2.5" SSD delivers a 1GB/s sustained transfer rate and 100K/50K random read/write IOPS, while also achieving the industry's highest endurance from consumer-grade multi-level cell (MLC) Flash up to 50 DWPD.
SMART Storage Systems will also use the show to make a key global technology announcement.
“This is the first time we have attended SNW Europe and we are using it to make a global technology announcement. SMART Storage Systems is aiming to redefine storage in the era of data growth, where data centre managers have turned to solid-state drives (SSDs) to provide the throughput needed. However, as budgets remain strained, many have turned to client MLC SSDs to increase the performance capabilities,” stated John Scaramuzzo, President, SMART Storage Systems.
“Since client MLC SSDs are designed for “read mostly” environments and wear out quickly in mixed workload or write-intensive applications, enterprise organisations have seen the total cost of ownership (TCO) continually increase,” he added.
“It is our stated objective to become the new storage DNA for the data centre. Our mission is to drive this message home at SNW Europe, Europe’s premier storage technology event.”
With technologies like SMART Storage Systems’ Guardian Technology Platform now available on SSDs in the market, the barriers to mass adoption are crumbling. The Guardian Technology Platform allows for the lowest cost MLC Flash to be used in mixed-workload and write-intensive applications common in the enterprise. This extends the native endurance of standard MLC flash-based SSDs from less than 1 drive write per day to 50 full drive writes per day for a period of five years. This is changing the game in enterprise storage, allowing organisations to tackle their new data centre challenges with a single SSD that meets all of their requirements.
Furthermore, Esther Spanjer, Director of SSD Technical marketing, will present at SNW Europe two tutorials, one focusing on the realities of solid state storage, comparing the performance, reliability, endurance and cost properties of different SSD approaches, as well as giving a roadmap for how to think about solid state influencing future storage architecture. The other will highlight recent advancements in Flash endurance enhancement technology that increase the native endurance capability of consumer-grade MLC Flash, enabling more cost-effective, enterprise-grade SSDs to be deployed, and data centre managers to avoid the rip-and-replace game.
