SES Broadband Services today announced that it will introduce its latest satellite technology at eLearning Africa in Kampala. Two exclusive demonstrations will be showcased at the event, which will see live streaming of an eLearning session in progress and the launch of a new satellite WiFi hot spot service.

SES Broadband Services, Eichstätt-lngolstadt University and the Permanent Centre for Education (PCE) of Uganda, have partnered for the exclusive demonstration which shows the co-operation between the German university project, Kuganda, and SES by allowing remote communication via satellite between a classroom and teachers.

The demonstrations, taking place twice a day at the SES stand, will see Eichstätt-lngolstadt University in Munich connected live to Kampala via satellite to show the features of the virtual classroom product.

SES Broadband Services will also launch its new WiFi hot spot service at the event, which is taking place between 28 to 30 May, with delegates invited to drop by the SES stand to get an access code to see how easy it is to connect to the Internet with iOS and Android devices.

“We are continuing to strengthen strategic partnerships with educational content and solution providers such as Teachers Media International (TMI) to offer unparalleled reach in African rural areas. The SES Broadband Services’ solution allows connectivity services at affordable prices, fast deployment and full coverage of large and dispersed areas,” said Patrick Biewer, Managing Director of SES Broadband Services. ”Other advantages are a low power consumption through solar powered equipment, and the ability to integrate creative learning and web-based tools.”

“The new WiFi hot spot service could truly change the lives of African people who live in more rural areas allowing more flexible pricing models and service capabilities,” continues Biewer. “We are committed to helping economic and sustainable growth in developing regions by innovating constantly to bridge the digital divide.”

With poor terrestrial infrastructure and low Internet penetration across Africa, SES allows schools across the region to benefit from eLearning facilities.

Christelle Agossou from SES Broadband Services will also give a presentation at eLearning Africa, titled Satellite Services Supporting Education and eLearning in Rural Schools in Africa, to further highlight SES’s extensive experience in eLearning projects in Africa. This will take place on Friday 30 May as part of a session on Broadband Expanding Access and Delivery.

SES will hold the live demonstrations of African eLearning sessions at Stand 8 in the exhibition hall at eLearning Africa, Uganda, at 1pm and 4pm on May 28th, 1.30pm and 4pm on May 29th and 11am on May 30th.
