The SCTE (Society for Broadband Professionals) has confirmed the winners of its prestigious 2012 Awards for Technological Innovation. The winners were announced at its annual Gala Dinner on Saturday 17 March 2012 at Woburn Abbey, Bedfordshire. The winners and runners up in the three separate award categories are:-
- ‘Best broadband network transmission solution’
Winner: Net Insight - Service Aware Media Network
Runner up: Aurora Networks - Universal Digital Return Platform
- ‘Best digital processing solution’
Winner: ARRIS - Media Services Platform
Runner up: Harmonic Inc. - Pro Media Suite
- ‘Best CPE solution’
Joint winner: Bridge Technologies - microC™ Viewer-Device Monitoring
The winner of the best overall submission and SCTE 2012 Technological Innovation of the Year Award was ARRIS for its Media Services Platform. Last year’s 2011 winner of the best overall submission was Harmonic Inc. for its NSG 9000 HectoQAM.
The Society also gave out its individual SCTE Achievement Awards for 2012 at the dinner. The award for SCTE Technician of the Year 2012 was given to Ian Venn of Virgin Media. The 2012 Richard Harris Member of the Year award went to Paul Smith of Virgin Media. Honorary Fellowships of the Society were presented to Jos Huizer of HMConsult and Martien Rijssemus of Technetix.
The 2012 David Hall award for Best Presentation went to Mike Thornton of Countryside Broadband for his lecture presentation and Broadband Journal article on rural broadband. Finally, the 2012 Tom Hall award for Outstanding Services to Broadband Engineering was awarded to past CAI Chairman and Honorary Fellow of the SCTE, David Hodges.
