-Cloud trailblazer invited to speak at annual America’s Growth Capital information security conference in San Francisco-

19th February 2013, Basingstoke, UK, – Web application security provider, SaaSID, has been invited to present at the first day of America’s Growth Capital (AGC) 9th annual West Coast Information Security and Technology Growth Conference at 11am PST/ 7pm GMT on Monday 25th February 2013. During the presentation, entitled, “Beyond SSO –taking control of the Cloud”, SaaSID Chief Executive Officer, Ed Macnair, will discuss how the increased adoption of cloud-based services is driving market requirements for security solutions that go beyond single sign-on (SSO), to enable management and auditing of user access to Web applications.

The increase in the number of organisations using cloud-based services is driving the requirement for CIOs to extend existing enterprise identity to manage and audit the use of Web applications. However, existing identity and access management (IAM) and single sign-on (SSO) solutions do not enable CIOs to tightly govern and audit user access in the cloud. In addition, the availability and ease of deploying Web applications has increased the incidence of employees using unauthorised applications to process corporate data. A fourth challenge CIOs face is the increase in employees using personally-owned devices to access, process and store corporate data. These four issues make it harder for organisations to prove their compliance with data protection and financial regulations and can stifle efforts to gain cost and productivity benefits from cloud deployments.

Ed Macnair founded SaaSID to address the data governance, security and compliance issues facing organisations when they deploy Web applications. SaaSID has developed browser-based security that goes beyond SSO by not only providing identity and access management, but also controlling Web application features that are available to users, while creating a detailed audit trail of user activity between logon and logoff. SaaSID’s use of a browser extension allows access to Web applications to be managed and audited, regardless of the computing device used.

“CIOs are being attacked on four fronts. They are under pressure to gain the cost and productivity benefits of the cloud and being asked to support an array of personal computing devices, while also being responsible for maintaining the organisation’s security and compliance status. As CIOs have grabbled with these issues, many employees and even whole departments, have taken a direct route and begun using their own Web applications, creating a shadow IT environment that poses yet another threat to data governance and compliance. To regain control of IT, organisations must go beyond traditional single sign-on and mobile device management solutions and apply control and auditing at the point of interaction with corporate data. That point of interaction is the browser.”

The AGC Conference comprises keynotes, panel sessions and private and public company presentations. It is hosted by America’s Growth Capital (AGC), a full-service, partner-owned boutique investment bank with offices in Silicon Valley, Boston and Israel, which provides private capital, mergers and acquisitions and capital market advisory services. The conference annually attracts more than five hundred attendees, including public and private equity investors and corporate development executives from more than one hundred security companies.

Ed Macnair’s presentation will be Webcast during the AGC Conference on 25th February and will be available to view until the end of May 2013 at: http://wsw.com/webcast/agc17/saasid/

Ed Macnair was formerly CEO of Marshal, a UK-based internet security company acquired through a management buyout from NetiQ. In November 2008 he merged Marshal with US-based 8e6 Technologies to create M86 Security.
