Survey results from over 600 respondents and more than 400 satellite companies to be presented during Newtec’s “S2 Extensions Demystified” Webinar on 28 January

SINT-NIKLAAS, Belgium, 23 January 2013 Satellite specialist Newtec has carried out an extensive industry survey to gauge the temperature of the sector as DVB makes plans to roll-out extensions to the existing DVB-S2 standard at the end of the summer. The combination of technologies incorporated in the new standard can result in a gain of up to 64% compared to DVB-S2.

The full findings of the survey will be presented during a free webinar with “take away” copies of the results to be made available to those in attendance. The results reveal the importance of the extensions to the industry, time frame to implementation, and the required improvement in efficiency before companies commit to switching and the potential applications for freed up bandwidth.

Newtec’s contribution to the upcoming DVB standard has resulted in a number of technology candidates that are already implemented on Newtec’s newest family member, the MDM6000 Satellite Modem. The modem integrates all S2 Extensions, from smaller Roll-Offs, advanced filtering, MODCOS and FEC upgrades to wideband support.

“The satellite world has changed a lot since DVB-S2 was first published in 2005. Higher speeds, more efficient satellite communication technology and wider transponders are required to support the exchange of large and increasing volumes in data, video and voice over satellite,” said Dirk Breynaert, Newtec Founder and CTO of Newtec. “Our survey findings are really quite interesting. One of the findings was that 98% of respondents that regard standards to be very important, 35% acknowledge that they help the industry as a whole to reduce costs of both equipment and bandwidth.”

As well as presenting the findings of the survey, speakers Koen Willems, Newtec Strategic Marketing Director Government & IP Trunking, and Thomas Van den Driessche, Newtec Director of Vertical Markets, will discuss the new technologies.

For satellite businesses, the creation and adoption of these extensions will translate to higher efficiency, higher speed and greater service robustness to increase business and therefore revenues. This Webinar is a chance for industry professionals to demystify the S2 Extensions and find out how they will be beneficial.

There will be two webinar sessions taking place on Monday 28 January to accommodate different time zones at 9AM and 5PM Central European Time. To register and attend the free session log on at www.newtec.eu/S2-Extensions-webinar.
