At first glance, the rural broadband initiatives in Illinois sound a little bit like a kindergarten classroom with the theme of ‘everybody in, nobody out’ and support for the plan being ‘Virginia did it so I want to do it, too’. But at closer look, the goals of the Broadband Deployment Council seem both viable and positive. They include extending broadband networks, reaching unserved areas of the state with high-speed service, and requiring IDOT to install fiber optic cables under any new roads that are built.
