Big names return and new country pavilions booked as sales start to beat targets
Returning industry leaders such as Oclaro, Tyco and GigOptix – plus major new country pavilions from China and Taiwan – are boosting confidence that the ECOC 2010 exhibition in Turin in September (20-22) is set to be bigger than ECOC 2009, reflecting an increased confidence in the marketplace.
Bookings are already past 80% of capacity and organisers Nexus Media Events are looking to open up additional space at the impressive Lingotto Fiere Exhibition Centre.
“There is a real buzz and enthusiasm around the whole show this year, with exhibitors looking to do much more and we are delighted to welcome back some of the major players as well as accommodating some new country pavilions,” said Nexus Media Events Group Event Manager Beverley Lucas.
“While the exhibition has remained solid and well supported in the past, you can tell 2010 is going to see the show leap forward again. Even some of the 20% space remaining is already earmarked for people and the fact that we are having to open up more space at the venue with over four months still to go is an incredibly positive sign.”
Oclaro, long-term supporters of ECOC in its former life as Bookham, has also agreed to sponsor the highly successful Market Focus event at the show.
“ECOC is an international showcase for our industry and provides a great venue to interact with our European based customers,” said Scott Parker, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Communications, Oclaro.
The returning Oclaro, Tyco and GigOptix – coupled with other established names such as Finisar, Sumitomo, Furukawa, Opnext and JDSU – give a very strong line-up to the exhibition. Another welcome addition are the new country pavilions from China and Taiwan, which demonstrate the growing commitment to the show from Asia, and will add to pavilions from Korea, Germany and France. Italian companies are also showing considerable interest and among first-time exhibitors from the host country will be Glenair and Fiberon Technologies.
The Oclaro-sponsored ECOC Market Focus is now in its fifth year, and has previously featured speakers from France Telecom, BT, Ericsson, ADVA, Ciena, Tellabs, The Broadband Forum, Ovum, and JDSU. Last year’s event broke all records, with nearly 900 leading industry executives taking part, covering topics including 40G and 100G Ethernet, Optical Network Agility and the role of optical communications in Green Telecoms and Mass Market Broadband Fibre Access.
This year’s subjects, and a call for papers, will be issued within the next few weeks with a projected deadline of June 1.
