MTS chooses in-building wireless (IBW) innovators for Russia’s Sochi International Airport Project
Mobile World Congress, Barcelona | February 27th, 2012 – Optiway Ltd. (
www.optiway.biz), an innovative provider of In-Building wireless (cellular, public safety and Wi-Fi) coverage and capacity solutions, has been selected by Mobile TeleSystems OJSC (MTS) the leading Telecommunications group in Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia to provide indoor mobile and wireless broadband coverage for Russia’s Sochi International Airport - the hub for the 2014 Winter Olympics.
One of Russia’s busiest airports, Sochi airport, situated on the Black Sea coast, is undergoing renovation in anticipation of the 2014 event, when it will receive visiting spectators and participants and provide a direct train link to the Olympic Village. The Optiway solution resolves the challenges of providing high bandwidth mobile coverage for all users throughout the complete terminal.
Optiway’s AllAccess in-building wireless solution delivers cellular services over a single fiber-optic cable, combining all available frequencies, technologies and operators on a common platform, producing a significantly reduced total cost of ownership (TCO) for Sochi airport in comparison to existing IBW solutions.
By using minimal peripheral equipment connections and cable deployment, as well as simplified installation and maintenance, with significantly decreased power consumption and radiation levels, the AllAccess solutions provide ease of use and a reduced TCO.
“This project is of great importance for MTS as Sochi International Airport is the main traffic artery of the coming Winter Olympics. That is why, as part of our large-scale network capacity and quality enhancement programme, we have initiated a special project to provide the high quality of wireless coverage in the airport, as millions of international visitors arrive and depart from the games,” said Olga Ramina, director of Radio Access Network department at MTS. “We are sure that Optiway’s in-building wireless solutions will help us to provide a premium-grade service.”
This installation, which expands Optiway’s ongoing global agreement with MTS, was planned, designed, supervised and set up by the experts of RGRCOM Ltd, Optiway's exclusive Distributor in Russia. RGRCOM supplies MTS with AllAccess systems and will shortly start providing Optiway's cutting edge models with LTE-TDD/FDD support thus becoming the first supplier of LTE solutions in Russia and one of the first to deliver LTE solutions worldwide.
“Once again MTS has chosen Optiway for its latest high capacity and high profile project. As the industry’s most efficient, scalable and cost effective in-building coverage solution, it is an obvious choice. We offer the most technically comprehensive offering to meet the airport’s current and future mobile communications demands, and we are proud to be helping to create what will be a successful 2014 Winter Olympics,” said Ofer Reviv, Optiway CEO.
