Latest technology installed as part of prestigious hotel refurbishment
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. and AL-KHIRAN, Kuwait, –– September 20, 2010 - Occam Networks®, Inc. (Nasdaq: OCNW) a leading broadband access supplier offering multi-service access platform (MSAP) solutions based on pure packet technologies, announced today that its technology is being installed as part of a major refurbishment of a prestigious resort in Kuwait.
Khiran Resort, located 120km from Kuwait City, will deploy Occam’s GPON solution for a phased renovation of the resort’s chalets. The resort will offer fibre to the premise (FTTP) capability and offer guests IP telephony, IPTV and RFTV (Radio Frequency TV) services.
Occam’s technology partner in Kuwait, Gulf Systems, will remove legacy hardware in phases and migrate to the Occam BLC 6000 in five stages of renovation works.
Mohammed Azeeem, from Gulf Systems, commented: “Al-Khiran Resort is one of the most popular tourist resorts in southern Kuwait and the renovation will provide guests with the ultimate leisure and business travel experience.
“As part of this ethos of providing the best hotel experience, guests will have access to IP telephony and IPTV services. Occam’s BLC 6000 demonstrated a flexibility and ease of use that simplified our communications renovation and therefore made it the technology of choice.”
The flexibility comes from the use of Occam’s BLC 6000 MSAP blades which have been specially designed to deliver a wide array of services from copper, Gigabit Ethernet FTTP and GPON Triple Play residential services to MEF-certified carrier E-Line and E-LAN business services.
In the Kuwait installation, the BLC 6000’s GPON FTTP solution was deployed because of low cost of entry and ability to scale from low to high numbers of subscribers.
Already firmly established in the US, this is the first major installation for Occam in the Middle East since it launched across the EMEA region late last year.
Juan Vela, director of solutions marketing and strategy at Occam Networks, commented: “This is a great example of a hotel refurbishment that is aimed at meeting the requirements of leisure and business travellers while satisfying operational and capital considerations.”
