WatchGuard depicts the personas behind latest cyber-security breaches

31 May 2013 – WatchGuard® Technologies has released an infographic that profiles the hackers that pose the greatest threats to today’s businesses. From a recent breach that enabled hackers to steal money from ATMs, through to cyber espionage claims against China and denial of service (DoS) attacks on financial institutions, businesses of all sizes are concerned about the security of their networks and wondering who is behind the attacks.

The infographic - ’The Three Bad Guys Behind the Latest Cyber-Security Attacks’ aims to  educate businesses and consumers on the motives and methods used by the  hackers that pose the greatest threats to cyber security.

“We no longer live in a world of fame-seeking hackers, script kiddies and cyber criminals—there are some new kids on the block. It’s important to understand these motives and profile changes, since they dictate what each type of hacker is ultimately after, whom they target and how they  do business,” said Corey Nachreiner, director of security strategy at WatchGuard, in a recent blog post. “Knowing these things can be the key to helping you understand which of your resources and assets need the most protection and how you might protect them.”

The three most common hackers – hacktivists, cyber criminals and nation states – are depicted in the infographic as characters with unique attributes, illustrating the personalities and preferences of those behind some of the most recent and newsworthy cyber-attacks.
