Myriad Group Joins Wholesale Application Community
« Posted: October 18, 2010, 06:16:30 PM »

•         Myriad to work with other co-founders such as Verizon Wireless, KT, Orange, Vodafone, China Mobile, AT&T and Softbank to support WAC driven solutions
•         Myriad becomes Associate Member and granted full participation and access to WAC working groups and specifications

DUEBENDORF-ZURICH, Switzerland – 18 October 2010 - Myriad Group AG (SIX: MYRN), a global leader in mobile technology having shipped over 3.5 billion software applications on more than 2 billion phones, today announces it has joined the Wholesale Application Community (WAC) as Associate Member. As part of joining, Myriad will have full participation and access to WAC working groups and specifications enabling it to contribute to the overall standard, while broadening its own portfolio to include WAC standard-based software and solutions.

Launched earlier this year, WAC is a not-for-profit alliance of telecommunications companies committed to building an open applications platform. Today the alliance has many global telecom firms including, AT&T, China Mobile, China Unicom, Deutsche Telekom, KT, KDDI, Mobilkom Austria Group, MTN, NTT DoCoMo and Vodafone, reaching over three billion mobile phone users world-wide.

WAC was established to increase the overall market for mobile applications by encouraging open standardized technologies, driving scaled deployment of those technologies and providing complimentary commercial models. Through the use of standardized technologies, WAC’s aim is to simplify application development and enable developers to write applications that can be deployed across multiple platforms and across multiple operators in order to create more compelling applications and greater choice for users.

“We are proud to be a part of a collective industry effort to create a single, simple-to-use ecosystem,” said Malcolm Dawe, Chief Product Officer of Myriad Group. “Myriad is fully committed to the WAC community, and we are working on enhancements to our portfolio to support the new WAC standards.”

The first WAC development will be centered on widgets. Based on W3C standards, the WAC widget specification and components of the developer SDK will be published in the coming months. In support of WAC, Myriad will be making the WAC standard-based widgets a feature of its recently launched, Myriad Browser V9, which supports full Open Internet Browsing, including W3C web standards. Myriad’s Browser V9 features multi-path page navigation, touch screen support, tagging and superior graphics, delivering some of the most advanced browsing features for mass-market mobile phones today in a minimal footprint.

“We are excited to have Myriad Group on board. Myriad’s extensive global reach, deep heritage in embedded software and ability to support multiple platforms will prove to be a strong asset to this community,” said Peters Suh, CEO, WAC. “We look forward to their contribution as we aim to further define enhanced solutions for customers based on WAC specifications.”
