Mobile World Congress: LANCOM exhibit cellular-networking routers
« Posted: February 01, 2011, 09:45:37 PM »

Trade-show launch of 3.5G and 4G professional devices

LONDON, UK, Tuesday 1st February, 2011 – Networking specialists LANCOM are exhibiting for the first time at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (February 14 to 17, 2011, Hall 1, Booth 1B01). Visitors to the leading exhibition in the mobile communication sector can expect a first look at the new HSPA+ and LTE router series from the specialists for Virtual Private Networks (VPN) and wireless LAN. With data rates up to 100 Mbps downstream and 50 Mbps upstream, these IPsec-based VPN routers use the next generation of cellular networks to offer secure broadband networking between company sites.

The first model in the new router series will be on show in Barcelona live for the first time: The LANCOM 1780 EW-3G. The VPN router with integrated HSPA+ modem provides up to 21 Mbps downstream and 5.76 Mbps upstream, several times the bandwidth currently available with cellular networking. Applications include not only the backup of business-critical Internet connections, but also primary access connections over the high-speed cellular networks.

Also debuting is the first outdoor model based on HSPA+. The OAP-321-3G combines Internet access via cellular networks with high-speed 802.11n wireless LAN. Equipped with a rugged IP-67 outdoor housing, this router enables outdoor locations that lack broadband to access corporate networks, while providing wireless LAN coverage at the same time (typical sites being storage areas, landmarks, transport terminals, etc.). The device can also ideal for setting up nomadic wireless networks.

A prototype of the first LTE router from LANCOM will be on display. The final product will be available in time to match the network expansion plans of mobile providers from mid-2011. The LANCOM 1681-4G LTE has an integrated multimode LTE modem and supports European LTE spectra, in particular 800 MHz, 1,800 MHz and 2,600 MHz (LTE 800, LTE 1800 and LTE 2600). In addition to LTE it operates on HSPA+, UMTS, EDGE and GPRS.

By the end of 2011, the LANCOM series of cellular routers will additionally feature HSPA+ models for operation indoors, outdoors, and in industrial applications for machine-to-machine communication.

"Our new cellular router series is an attractive offering for anybody wanting to operate professional applications over new-generation cellular broadband networks," says Ralf Koenzen, Managing Director of LANCOM Systems. "This applies in particular to carriers offering services to business customers who demand secure, high-availability multi-site networking. The Mobile World Congress offers us an excellent platform to address this group."
