Liquavista receives a further 7 million Euros for commercialisation of electrowetting displays
All existing investors show their support for Liquavista’s electrowetting technology
Eindhoven, 13 April, 2010 –Liquavista BV. today announced that it has successfully closed a Series D funding round from existing partners Amadeus Capital Partners, GIMV, Prime Technology Ventures and Applied Ventures. The additional funding is aimed at accelerating commercialisation and supporting Liquavista’s strategy to have products with Liquavista technology appearing on the market during 2011.
“This next round of funding is specifically aimed at enabling us to accelerate our commercialisation of next generation LCD2.0 displays.” stated Guy Demuynck, Liquavista’s CEO. “Our investors have been impressed with the enormous interest in Liquavista from players in the smart mobile device industry. Combined with very strong demand for our newly launched System Development Kits, this gave them the confidence to further support our drive into our main strategic markets in 2010.”
“This show of confidence from our investors is driven by the commercial traction we now have for our technology, and confirmation that the unique customer benefits will enable device makers and content creators to bring applications to market that were never before possible. This will radically change the way that users will interact with their devices,” added Nigel Litchfield, Liquavista Chairman. “With our video capability and full colour, and our low power and unsurpassed outdoor viewability, we make it impossible for existing display technologies to compete with the versatility that Liquavista’s technology can offer.”
Liquavista’s LCD2.0 product platforms are well-suited for the next generation of e‑reading and tablet devices, offering increased versatility for the manufacturer and the consumer. Liquavista brings multimedia and video capabilities on top of the existing benefits offered by e-paper, such as outdoor readability and intelligent low power management. With predicted demand for e-reader devices set to reach volumes exceeding 10 million this year and up to 20 million by 2013* and the tablet market predicted to reach shipments in excess of 10 million devices this year#, Liquavista’s technology is well suited to support future trends and enable all parties in the value chain to further develop their offerings in this growing segment of the consumer electronics market.
Liquavista is developing three product platforms based on its LCD2.0 technology - LiquavistaBright, LiquavistaColor and LiquavistaVivid. All of these technologies will be on our exhibition stand 405 at SID 2010, 25 – 27 May at Washington State Convention Center in Seattle.
