Dubai September 13, 2011 – Kodak (NYSE:EK) today announced that it is attending Gitex Technology Week in Dubai for the first time as it energises its sales effort, and builds presence and visibility in the Middle East.

At the exhibition, Kodak will be demonstrating its innovative Capture Pro imaging software and latest high volume scanning solutions, including:

- NEW. The i5800 production scanner which will be launched at Gitex and shown in the region for the first time. A new pedestal–based height adjustable scanner, the Kodak i5800 Scanner is designed for true performance, able to process 210 pages per minute (ppm) with all imaging features enabled. Featuring Kodak Dynamic Flow Technology, a breakthrough digital architecture that delivers optimised memory allocation and processing paths, customers can process images quicker and more efficiently, thereby improving overall throughput and productivity. Over 5 years, the i5800 scanner offers up to 53% total cost of ownership savings compared to similar competitive products [in terms of list price, servicing, consumables and image processing costs].

- NEW. As a key agent and worldwide support partner, Kodak will demonstrate – for the first time - the latest IBML Image Trac 5 series scanner on its stand which offers bureau, BPO and other high throughput paper processing environments a super high performance solution able to handle over 400 ppm.

- NEW. All Kodak scanners at Gitex will run Kodak Capture Pro imaging software with an Arabic interface option included which demonstrates Kodak’s commitment to developing solutions which directly meet local market needs.

On Forefront’s stand – Kodak’s value added distributor in the United Arab Emirates – Kodak i2000 departmental and i5600 production scanners will also be demonstrated, along with Kodak’s Scan Station 500 network attached scanner.

According to analysts, InfoSource, the market for scanners in the Middle East remains buoyant with encouraging growth rates in the majority of scanner device segments. In the departmental category, the Middle East grew 67% between 2009 and 2010, with the low and mid volume segments increasing 84% and 39% respectively. The same trend is true at the high volume end. Shipments grew 35% in 2010 – doubling what was achieved the year before. The forecast is that positive CAGR growth rates will continue[1].

With 15 years scanner sales and business development expertise – and 5 years direct Middle East experience from previous positions - David Whitton has recently been appointed as regional sales director for the Middle East and Africa tasked with developing Kodak’s business in the region. He joined Kodak in 2004 and was responsible for sales in the UK, Nordics and South Africa.

Whitton says “To be successful in the document imaging industry, you have to be successful in the Middle East. It’s a strategic region for us and one very close to my heart. That’s why we are investing in channel recruitment, increasing headcount and bringing to market Arabic versions of our Capture Pro imaging software. In other words, we’re adapting Kodak solutions to the needs of the region to capitalise on the above average growth rates.”

In 2010, Kodak launched is Kodak Capture Pro Certified Partner Programme in the Middle East to attract and recruit qualified strategic partners to sell Kodak Capture Pro imaging solutions so that end-user customers maximise their investment in scanning and electronic document management software.

Commenting on Kodak’s attendance at the exhibition, Whitton says, “As is well known, Gitex is the biggest IT event in the Middle East and we’re are delighted to attend to showcase our new scanner and imaging solutions to visitors, strengthen existing partner relationships and establish new ones.”
