Increased momentum blasts Famous Four Media past 1.75 million domain names in record time
750,000 new domain names have been registered in Famous Four Media registries in only 10 weeks
Tuesday, 5th January 2016, Gibraltar: Famous Four Media, one of the largest new registry management groups providing generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs), today announced that is has passed one and three quarter million domain name registrations. This comes only 10 weeks after it announced that it has 1 million names under management in its registries.
“Adding 750,000 new domain registrations in only 10 weeks is an extraordinary achievement,” declared Geir Rasmussen, CEO of Famous Four Media. “When ICANN launched this revolutionary program, only 2 years ago, it took approximately 6 months to reach half a million names in the totality of the new gTLD registries.”
Famous Four Media has made a significant contribution in ICANN’s new gTLD program, a fundamental shake up of the domain name industry, where internet users can choose from almost 1000 different descriptive endings to better describe the content of their website address.
“This is a clear indicator that the new gTLD program as a whole is rapidly building momentum,” continued Rasmussen. “It took Famous Four Media a full year to reach our first 500,000 domain names, we reached one million names after a further six months and now we have broken the 1.75 million barrier after only ten additional weeks. In 2015, one in every seven new gTLD domain names registered was one of ours. We are seeing phenomenal growth from the Asian markets and we have been working on even more exciting projects set to launch in 2016.”
Famous Four Media managed registries comprise 15 new gTLD extensions including .SCIENCE, .PARTY, .REVIEW and .DOWNLOAD. Domain names can be registered through Famous Four Media’s network of ICANN accredited registrars.
