IGEL Technology has been recognized as the fastest growing of the top 5 thin client manufacturers in the UK & Ireland in 2013, according to the latest report from analyst group International Data Corporation (IDC). With year-on-year growth of 58% in the UK and 150% in Ireland, the German dedicated thin client hardware and software vendor was the fastest growing of the major manufacturers in the IDC Enterprise Client Device Tracker report for 2013.
In addition to its hardware thin and zero client sales, IGEL also reported a huge growth in sales of its software thin client solution, not currently reported in the IDC statistics. The IGEL Universal Desktop Converter (UDC2) software helps businesses convert old PCs, laptops or thin clients from different manufacturers to IGEL desktops at very low cost. The UDC2 software is increasingly being used by businesses to cost effectively extend the life of their current desktops to deliver a Cloud or Server-Based Computing architecture or to produce a shorter return on investment when migrating to a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment.
Simon Richards, IGEL Technology’s Managing Director for UK & Ireland, said: “These latest IDC figures prove our approach is paying off. We offer customers open architecture thin and zero clients that allow them to take advantage of the best back-end IT infrastructure for their business – whether its cloud, virtual or server-based computing.”
“Add in our software thin client sales and we are already vying for market leadership in Ireland and taking huge strides forward in the larger UK market. We are seeing triple-digit growth in this area with a huge increase in the number of organizations choosing to extend the life of their existing desktop infrastructure by converting them to IGEL manageable devices.”
Across Europe, IDC reports IGEL is third in the market for thin client sales, with year-on-year growth of 36.8% and a market share of 13.8%.
