London – 23 September 2010 – Global consulting firm ARUP, will provide a special workshop at the 5th Power and Cooling for data centres taking place in London 7-8 October (www.datacentres.com/pac)

The ARUP team will provide a Data Centre Surgery: “Secrets for a Long and Healthy Life” The workshop will be considering issues of strategic importance, when investing in a Data Centre which can greatly improve the longevity of the building, staff welfare and return on investment. As the industry prepares to meet the requirements of Carbon Legislation, the workshop will look at how data centres strive to minimise the environmental impact, but also address how this will impact business.

The Data Centre Surgery is an interactive session comprising presentations from key members of Arup’s engineering team and The Clinic - where the audience's data centre aches and pains can be discussed amongst peers and panel. Topics include: Assessing the impacts of Tier classification; Improving operational efficiency and the Management of Carbon Portfolios.

Operational efficiency can be transformed by the surrounding environment and applications employed to keep costs in check. Embracing these challenges over time will boost Data Centre longevity, efficiency, environmental friendliness and overall health.

“The workshop is a unique opportunity to get your Data Centre back into shape”, commented Andrew Harrison, Director and Mission Critical Business leader, “and is an opportunity for delegates to share their Data Centre aches and pains with the Arup panel”.

The session will be broken down into the following sub-presentations: ‘Tiers Before Bedtime’ – Common Misconceptions Relating to the Uptime Institute’s Tier Ratings; Driving Efficiency Through Virtual Reality – Recommendations in Relation to the Use of Simulation & Modelling in Data Centre Applications; Managing Carbon Portfolio –Advice for planning business’ Carbon Reduction Strategy to encompass Data Centres.
