Fujikura Introduces Expanded Connector Portfolio For FTTH
« Posted: September 10, 2007, 04:21:13 PM »

New LC connector variant and FAST portfolio to be shown at ECOC 2007

10th September 2007, Fujikura Europe today announced the expansion of its portfolio of FAST optical connectors to include LC connector types.  The new variants are designed to meet the needs of field engineers working on FTTH deployments and will be on show for the first time at ECOC 2007, taking place in Berlin, 17-19 September.

Expanding Fujikura’s portfolio of products addressing the FTTH market, The LC connector variant has a smaller footprint than existing SC and ST connector types, allowing access gateway vendors to increase fibre port density and enabling reduced-size subscriber termination boxes.  The RJ latch system mounted onto the top of the connector housing allows for easier, single-handed insertion and retraction by engineers.   Like other products in the FAST portfolio, these field installable connectors require no assembly tool, no polishing and no epoxy resin, allowing for simple installation procedures with minimal specialist training.

“As roll-outs of FTTH around Europe gather speed, engineers in the field will be required to undertake installations of optical fibre on an ever-increasing basis,” said Brian Leonard, product manager at Fujikura Europe.  “The ‘cost-per-subscriber’ of FTTH installations is key to operators around Europe so it is crucial that fibre optic connectors are easy and quick to use, keeping costs to a minimum.

“With Fujikura’s FAST connectors, operators can be assured of the product’s ease of use whilst being confident of the quality, reliability and lifetime of each interconnection, ensuring that end customers will continue to receive the required quality of service,” concluded Leonard

The FAST (Field Assembly with Simple Technique) series connectors are now available in SC, ST and LC variants, catering for 250um to 900um diameter singlemode and multimode fibre types, including  Multi-mode 62.5/125um and Multi-mode 50/125um.  The connectors are also now 10G fibre/OM3 compliant, supporting 10G Multi-mode 50/125, meeting demand for high performance connectors from multimode LAN (Local Area Network) applications.

The launch of the expanded FAST connector portfolio increases Fujikura Europe’s range of products targeted at FTTH applications. In July, the company launched the Universal Mechanical Splicer, a system capable of splicing all standard telecom fibre from 250um to 900um with a unique single-handed action.  Earlier in the year, Fujikura launched its FutureGuide SR7.5 bend-resistant fibre, packaged in a resilient MageTsuyo patch cord, and two new test and measurement tools: the FLS-20T, a hand-held, battery-operated, dual laser light source; and the FVI-01, a miniature, keyring-size, battery-operated red laser light source that enables engineers to identify faults, bends, breaks and low quality splices or connections.

Fujikura’s complete portfolio of FTTH products will be on display at the European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC) 2007, taking place 17-19 September at the Internationales Congress Centrum, Berlin.  Demonstrations will take place on the company’s stand (#12015), and Fujikura products will be on show at the Opternus stand, (#12018), at the Light Brigade display, and the CTTS fusion splicing training area.
