Participants will hear about latest developments in Smart Home, Home Gateway Evolution and requirements for Home Networking
03 December 2013. HGI, the leading global organization for publishing requirements for the digital home, is hosting a special open summit in Santa Clara looking at the latest requirements for Smart Home, Home Gateway Evolution and Home Networking.
The event, to be held on 10 December, will focus on the latest developments in these fields and will discuss technology suitable for deployment in 2014. Representatives from the broadband, cable, and smart-home industries are free to register. Speakers confirmed for the event include heavy hitters from the major silicon providers, key industry fora such as UPNP and HGI’s telecoms service provider members. During the summit a longer term view of service provider requirements will be delivered.
The effectiveness of HGI’s work and creation of a published requirements document for Software Modularity on the Home Gateway has recently led to an industry-first Smart Home Gateway functionality demonstration and direct implementation at Broadband World Forum paving the way for industry adoption. ABI Research predicted earlier this month that the smart home appliance market will grow to be worth $25billion by 2018.
“As the Smart Home moves closer to becoming a reality, proper collaboration, integration and business models is essential,” said Duncan Bees, Chief Technology and Business Officer at HGI. “Therefore getting the various stakeholders to interact with each other is important. The Open Forum in Santa Clara is a great opportunity to initiate and reinforce important dialogue about opportunities and challenges in the industry and give North American Technology companies the chance to showcase their products.”
The Santa Clara Open Forum will be held at the city’s Network Meeting Centre on 10 December. A complementary lunch will be provided for all attendants. Registration will open at 10.30am and sessions will run until 6pm. The last hour will include demonstrations of various cutting edge technologies for the Smart Home.
“HGI’s involvement has already been essential to the progress made and we hope this forum will build on this,” added Bees.
Industry members who would like to attend the Santa Clara Open Forum should send an email to
