Famous Four Media Is Blinding Us With .Science
Famous Four Media is set to operate the .SCIENCE Top Level Domain
Thursday, 27 June 2013, Gibraltar: Famous Four Media, a global leader in the provision of generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs), today announced that dot Science Limited, a registry operator that it manages, is the only applicant left for the .SCIENCE suffix following the withdrawal of the other applicant.
According to the CIA World Factbook, there are 7 billion people on planet Earth and if, in the words of Albert Einstein, “Science is a refinement of everyday thinking” – this implies that everyone on earth, in their own way, is a scientist. Taking the professional field of science alone there are over 5.8 million researchers, every one of them driving forward the understanding of the human race. There are nearly 1.5 million scientific research papers published each year, in over 24,000 scientific journals, with an annual growth rate of 2.5%, according to the National Science Board. This makes science one of the most diverse of all disciplines.
The .SCIENCE gTLD will allow all members of the scientific community at whatever level of involvement to interact under one namespace, no matter what their specialism or discipline, from schoolchildren discovering the excitement of science for the first time; or amateur scientists who are passionate about their pastimes; to professional scientists driven to advancing the understanding of their field through shared findings, research and discussions.
“Science can explain absolutely everything that happens in the universe, from the behaviour of particles making up an atom to the workings of human cognitive processes” said Iain Roache of Famous Four Media. “And, if there is no explanation yet, you can be sure that a scientist, amateur or professional, somewhere in the world will be working to find one.”
The .SCIENCE gTLD will become a focused name space for the scientific community creating a dedicated online space for all members of the scientific community to share ideas and drive forward our understanding of the universe and our place in it, from particle physics through to biology and cognitive science into geoscience and astronomy.
“Famous Four Media is excited to be supporting the Scientific community online through the operation of the .SCIENCE generic Top Level Domain” continued Roache. “We are sure that scientists everywhere will come together to help develop an online name space containing results, ideas, teachings, questions, answers and fierce debates under the .SCIENCE banner.”
Famous Four Media’s aim is that owning a .SCIENCE domain name will enable companies and individual scientists, professional or hobbyists, to bring together online one of the most exciting and diverse communities on the planet, but one that is united in a common goal.
