Edinburgh, 18th October, 2011 – Exterity, the Building IPTV specialist, today announces a new version of its market leading AvediaPlayer receiver. The upgrade offers an enhanced core browser that improves visual functionality for organisations who want to provide live or on-demand access to TV, video and AV content over an IP Network. The receivers will be demonstrated for the first time at IP EXPO in Earls Court 2 in London on Exterity’s stand – C11.

This latest version of the AvediaPlayer receiver opens a wide range of deployment opportunities for enhancing enterprise communications by allowing any type of content to become a channel. Naturally, this includes traditional TV channels, however local web pages based on standard HTML technologies can also be displayed. These bespoke channels can be used in a number of ways -- a hotel information channel, internal communications channel or part of an emergency response plan, where TV channels change to evacuation messages and maps when required.

The updated receiver also has FTP functionality which allows files to be uploaded quickly and efficiently to a specific receiver or to groups of receivers across a site. The receivers also support both Standard Definition (SD) and High Definition (HD) up to 1080p.

Discussing the launch, Colin Farquhar, CEO of Exterity commented: “The new upgrade provides our customers with the widest range of engaging ways to distribute AV content, helping organisations embrace video communications as part of their enterprise information systems. As well as innovative functionality, the new receiver also offers enterprise reliability – ensuring money can be invested in providing great content rather than maintaining an inflexible specialist coaxial infrastructure.”

The new AvediaPlayer version also features enhancements to the USB interface on the receivers to improve enterprise class redundancy and enable new integration opportunities. External USB devices such as keyboards, mice or USB memory can be used, opening up new interactivity solutions and integration possibilities. Large deployments in public areas, such as transport hubs, can particularly benefit from this functionality. It allows a backup of AV content to be stored locally, meaning that network downtime or maintenance no longer means blank screens in public areas as content can be automatically played from USB memory. Once the network connection is restored the receiver automatically changes back to the original feed without any additional support burden being place on the IT management staff.

Exterity Building IPTV helps organisations use their existing building, campus, or wide-area IP network to harness the power of TV and video for success. AV over IP enables the same network that furnishes access to business applications (email, internet or IP phone services) to also supply an unlimited number of users with TV from all over the world, executive and training presentations, video on-demand, and digital signage. It enables organisations to utilise existing TVs, AV displays and even personal computers for TV and video delivery while supporting digital switchover and ever-higher picture quality and resolution.
