EnterpriseDB Expands its Postgres Plus Cloud Database to Support Virtual Private Clouds Following 200% Revenue Growth in 2013

Enterprises gain greater security and control with virtual private clouds supported by EDB’s cloud database architecture

EnterpriseDB expands the reach of its Postgres Plus Cloud Database with new availability in Australia

London, UK – January 29, 2014 – EnterpriseDB (EDB), the leading worldwide provider of enterprise-class Postgres products and Oracle database compatibility solutions, today announced it has expanded its Postgres Plus Cloud Database to support Amazon Web Services’ virtual private cloud (VPC) feature. EDB also today announced the launch of its Postgres Plus Cloud Database on Amazon Web Services’ Asia Pacific (Sydney) region in Australia.

The expanded capability of the Postgres Plus Cloud Database and launch into a major new market follows a year of spectacular growth in the solution’s customer base and a 200 percent increase in revenue during 2013.

Postgres Plus Cloud Database has several critical distinctions from cloud-based databases. Postgres Plus Cloud Database is based on an architecture purpose-built for the cloud so that it scales automatically in response to fluctuations in demand for processing power, server capacity or network capacity. An easy-to-use management console simplifies database deployment and monitoring, and users can control automatic performance scaling by setting triggering thresholds. Postgres Plus Cloud deployments include support from a team that focuses exclusively on Postgres.

Postgres Plus Cloud Database supports both community PostgreSQL and EDB’s flagship Postgres Plus Advanced Server, which extends PostgreSQL with enterprise-class security, performance and manageability enhancements.

“Our cloud database is supporting more complex and larger enterprise workloads and that means greater demand for security and control,” said Ed Boyajian, CEO and President of EnterpriseDB. “As our users move from development to production deployments, we’re expanding our feature set to ensure Postgres Plus Cloud Database supports evolving business needs in the cloud. And our tremendous growth in demand for our cloud database shown by the 200 percent increase in revenue confirms we’re on the right track.”

Expanding Postgres Plus Cloud Database to support VPCs gives end users even greater flexibility and control over their database. With virtual private clouds, end users can manage inbound and outbound traffic at the instance and at the subnet level. This complements additional control that Postgres Plus Cloud Database enables by deploying each database as a completely private instance. With root access providing full control of the database, users can monitor more operational information, tune more characteristics of the database for higher performance, and better customise their database deployment for specific needs than other Postgres databases in the cloud.

The support for Amazon’s virtual private cloud capability also enables Postgres Plus Cloud Database users to operate hybrid clouds, seamlessly linking on-premise Postgres deployments with cloud instances through a secure connection.

“Postgres Plus Cloud Database gave us the performance and reliability we needed to launch our business in a very cost effective way so we could continue to invest in growth,” said John Holland, CEO of WholeWorldBand, an audio visual music collaboration and sharing platform that launched on Postgres Plus Cloud Database. “We need secure communications between our network and our database in the cloud and by using the new virtual private cloud compatibility from EnterpriseDB, we’re able to contain our environment. It’s reduced the amount of work each of the machines has to do and greatly simplified the configuration.”
