Nexus Business Media, organisers of the 2011 European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC) exhibition, has today reported a record 33 percent rise in the number of companies booking early for this year’s show.

Several factors have driven the influx, including the success of the 2010 show and increased recognition globally of ECOC as the leading European platform for showcasing and discussing the latest developments in optical communications. Anritsu, Finisar, Opnext and u2t are among the names who have already secured stands at the show, held from 19-21 September at the Palexpo in Geneva, Switzerland.

ECOC 2011 logoNexus Business Media Events Manager Beverley Lucas says she expects the trend to continue in the run up to the event. She remarked: “We are very encouraged by the early flood of companies looking to secure space at the ECOC exhibition this year. It is seen as ‘the’ event in Europe for organisations wanting to demonstrate their products and services, and we believe this initial boom in interest will continue as others worldwide confirm their involvement for 2011.”

The Market Focus, sponsored by Opnext, will yet again be central to the exhibition, providing a series of on-trend industry presentations from high-profile professionals.  Topic areas for this year include: long haul optical transmission, data centers and interconnect technologies, mass-market broadband fibre access, optical network agility, packet optical transport and test and measurements.

The highly experienced Market Focus Advisory Committee comprising industry experts, from telecoms operators and system vendors to writers and industry bodies, will be the decision-making driving force behind those selected to speak at this year’s event. Wladek Forysiak of Oclaro is the newest addition to the experienced committee which will again be chaired by Per Danielsen, editor of Telekommunikation. Other members include Hartwig Tauber from FTTH Council Europe, Shoichi Hanatini from Hitachi, Stephan Neidlinger from ADVA Optical Networking, Philippe Chanclou from France Telecom, Joeri Van Bogaert from LEONI, Michael Lebby from Translucent, Daryl Inniss from Ovum, Glenn Wellbrock from Verizon and Pauline Rigby, renowned telecoms and technology writer.

Per Danielsen said: “This year sees an even broader selection of informative sessions planned for the Market Focus and we expect to see another record breaking year for the number of submissions received from interested speakers vying for a coveted slot.

“Its popularity has grown every year since being introduced six years ago and with Google making its first speaking appearance last year, it showed its increasingly dynamic appeal and relevance to the communications sector.”

Alongside Google, organisations such as France Telecom, BT, Ericsson, ADVA, Ciena, Tellabs, The Broadband Forum, Ovum, Olcaro and JDSU have also taken centre stage at previous ECOC Market Focus’.

The deadline for Market Focus speaker abstracts is 1 July 2011. Visit: http://www.ecocexhibition.com/downloadmarketfocus
