Discovering Start-Up winners get to pitch on international stage
« Posted: October 17, 2011, 07:16:11 PM »

17 October 2011: Cambridge Wireless has announced that in addition to pitching to 25 leading venture capitalists, angels and industry investors, all entrants to this year’s Discovering Start-Ups competition will get the chance to network with over 300 delegates from over 20 countries at the 2012 Future of Wireless International Conference next June www.cambridgewireless.co.uk/futureofwireless.

In addition to this special free networking session, the five winners will present their new technologies and business visions in a two minute pitching slot during the main conference. Last year’s conference attracted delegates from many of the world’s leading wireless companies including Docomo, HTC, Qualcomm, Megafon, Russia, Marubeni, Netspex, Cleverlance and more.

Ambitious new tech start-ups, inventors and budding entrepreneurs only have until the end of October to enter this year’s Discovering Start-Ups competition. The judging takes place on 8 December when all the entrants will pitch to the likes of Microsoft, RIM, Nokia, Vodafone Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures, Innovacom, Broadcom, Orange and ARM.

"This could be the break every new company dreams of," said David Cleevely, FREng FIET, Chairman of Cambridge Wireless. "A chance to pitch to 25 of the world's leading investors in one day plus an international showcase opportunity at one of the world’s leading wireless conferences. Start-ups, early-stage companies, students and academics need to hurry to make sure they get there entries in by visiting www.cambridgewireless.co.uk/discoveringstartups .”

The competition is simple and free to enter for companies in the East of England or Cambridge Wireless members nationally; and membership starts from as little as £100. Now in its second year and once again supported by the East of England Development Agency (EEDA), Discovering Start-Ups also rewards the winners with cash prizes and free business and consultancy services.

The latest entrants include Appsherpas that uses image discovery to connect real and on-line worlds through your mobile; the Eeve mobile app that allows users to share words and pictures to collaboratively tell a story at an event, party or social gathering; the TribalOS web based collaboration suite that brings together the best from offline and online environments; and Walkasins(TM) that is a wearable medical device that helps to reduce the risk of falls in people with balance problems by up to 50%.

Discovering Start-Ups is also sponsored by Microlease, Neondrum, Rohde and Schwarz, S-Tech Insurance Services, Dorsey and Whitney and Alliantus. Other organisations backing the Cambridge Wireless Discovering Start-Ups initiative include: Avidity IP, Business Link, Cambridge Network, Cambridge University, CamtechNet, Connected Cambridge, Enterprise Europe Network, Google, IdeaSpace, Innovation Martlesham, Nesta, One Nucleus, St John’s Innovation Centre and Survive & Thrive.
