A one day Digital Scotland 2013 conference, hosted by the Scottish Government is set to explore a vision for Scotland to be a world class digital nation by 2020.

The conference is a key event in the Scotland’s Digital Dialogue, an ongoing programme of engagement between the Government and public and private sector organisations and companies to ensure that Scotland is well positioned to take full advantage of the opportunities of the digital age.

The event at Heriot-Watt University’s Edinburgh Conference Centre on 22 May will include a series of presentations and workshops, alongside an exhibition area demonstrating activities and solutions from across Scotland.

Deputy First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon will deliver the opening keynote speech on the first morning of the event.  Ms Sturgeon said:

“The Scottish Government is committed to delivering world class infrastructure across Scotland by 2020.  This conference will allow us to engage with digital leaders and discuss how we can deliver world class connectivity for the people of Scotland. This will be vital in order to stimulate debate, capture ideas and showcase Scotland’s existing strengths in the digital arena.”

Alongside the keynote address, the agenda includes smart cities, rural challenges, applications of the future, digital services and mobile technologies.

“Digital Scotland 2013 brings together the perspectives of the Scottish Government, civic and local authorities, community leaders and key business enterprises to work towards a shared vision for a world-class digital infrastructure for Scotland within seven years. There is a lot of excitement already about the conference as we aim to build on events of previous years and develop Scotland’s roadmap to becoming a world-class digital nation,” said Marit Hendriks, Director of NG Events Ltd and organiser of Digital Scotland 2013.

The main Conference will be preceded by an invitation only dinner on 21 May at Edinburgh Castle, hosted by the Deputy First Minister.

The Digital Scotland Conference is a business event with free entry for all pre-registered delegates interested in Scotland’s World Class Vision.
