Half of all tenants currently undertaking business together
2 June 2010:
Lemon Studios, the
serviced office space shared by the tech and digital start-up community in Clerkenwell London, has been selected for two high profile partnerships. Both the
UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), the Government department which promotes exports and international trade and
Match Office, the leading serviced-office specialist in Europe supported by the Danish Embassy, will recommend Lemon Studios to businesses starting up or requiring a base in the UK. This reflects the increasing trend for foreign companies viewing London as a huge opportunity for growth, with little risk and investment required.
Despite tough market conditions, Lemon Studios is riding high on these recent successes with the knowledge that its flexible workspace is in high demand. The company already leases 68 desks to 25 companies including tech start-ups, digital marketing agencies, web agencies, production agencies and digital marketing technology vendors. It has a two-month waiting list for deskspace as enquiries have increased by 50% compared to the same time last year. In response, Lemon Studios has just doubled capacity and has a long-term view to offer 1,000 workstations in the capital across four locations including Shoreditch, Old Street, Soho and Southbank.
Commenting on the fact that over half of current tenants are undertaking business together, Matthew O'Riordan, Managing Director, said: “Despite all of the digital marketing and communications channels now available to entrepreneurs, we’ve witnessed a real return to old fashioned networking. We organise regular networking sessions for our tenants but there is also plenty of ad-hoc collaboration in the office, including a tenants’ intranet, and socialising after work over a pint. There is a real openness and willingness to share ideas and know-how – very much in the style of a business incubator.”
Lemon Studios attributes its success to both its flexibility and transparency. Historically, serviced offices have tried to lock customers in to long rental contracts and charged additional fees for non-portable add-on services such a telephone lines. Lemon Studios offers all customers their own telephone line which they can take with them when they leave and the all inclusive fee covers telephone line rental, internet connection & usage and meeting room hire. All customers are also on a one-month contract allowing them to grow, shrink or even leave as their business requirements change. Lemon Studios also offers hot desking to cater for tenants that may work from various locations at different times.
