Details announced for the World Research and Innovation Congress 2014
« Posted: October 10, 2013, 08:46:54 PM »

Bristol, UK - October 10th, 2013. Research Media, who produce the International Innovation series of publications, has announced details for next year’s World Research and Innovation Congress – Pioneers in Healthcare (WRIC) taking place on 4th and 5th June in Brussels. Themed ‘How we do research – maximising impact through collaboration’, the event will address key issues such as international collaboration, funding for research and supporting research excellence.
The future of healthcare research relies on innovation and collaboration. The event will attract a worldwide audience of scientific healthcare representatives who will benefit from a dynamic programme comprising presentations, workshops and interactive panel sessions.
The event will provide delegates with the opportunity to discuss the latest issues and developments in healthcare, hear about funding opportunities, share knowledge, network and form partnerships.
One of the unique features of WRIC will be a ‘Hackathon’, which will run alongside the Congress. Web and mobile-based devices are becoming increasingly important in diagnosis and treatment where a doctor is not immediately available; to demonstrate the effectiveness of these technologies, the Hackathon will bring together software programmers to address current healthcare challenges and present the results back. This novel initiative will be supported by W3C (The World Wide Web Consortium) who are currently working on semantic web standards, clinical data storage and sharing.
Already confirmed to speak at the event are Dr Hugh Laverty, Senior Scientific Officer for IMI, Marcelo d’Agostino Knowledge Management and Communication Manager for PAHO and Dr John Carfora, Associate Provost for Research Advancement and Compliance, Loyola Marymount University and International Research Collaborations Project, USA. Attendees will benefit from topical presentations including ‘crowdfunding and prize funds for biotech’, ‘knowledge transfer partnerships’ and ‘patients as stakeholders for healthcare research’.
Rita Andrews, Events Director, Research Media said: “We are delighted to announce the details of what promises to be an exciting event. International collaboration is essential in facing the current challenges in healthcare research and our aim is for delegates to leave the event feeling inspired with new ideas and contacts.”
