FRANKFURT/ DÜSSELDORF, 13 April 2011 - INTERXION HOLDING NV (NYSE: INXN), a leading European provider of carrier-neutral colocation data centre services, today announced that it has signed an agreement with DE-CIX, the world’s largest Internet Exchange operator to establish a DE-CIX regional Internet Exchange at Interxion’s Düsseldorf data centre.
The new exchange will be operated under the name DE-CIX Düsseldorf. The agreement underpins DE-CIX’s plans to provide coverage in strategic metropolitan areas across Germany. The new exchange infrastructure will be ready for service from May onwards.
Interxion logoSince 1995, DE-CIX has been the leading Internet Exchange in Germany enabling the exchange of IP-traffic between Internet Service Providers (ISPs). The company operates a failsafe switch infrastructure with some of its core elements hosted at Interxion’s Frankfurt data centre campus.
With a broad variety of content providers, carriers, and ISPs located in Düsseldorf and strong IP-traffic growth in recent years, DE-CIX decided to expand its activities to the Rhine Area. The new exchange infrastructure will be managed and monitored by DE-CIX’s staff based in Frankfurt/Main and operations will be supported by Interxion’s remote hands & eyes service. By hosting its switch infrastructure at Interxion’s Düsseldorf Data Centre, DE-CIX takes advantage of unrivaled connectivity, failsafe and highly available infrastructure, and a large community of content providers.
"As a result of strong IP-traffic growth, we have seen an increased demand for regional internet exchanges," comments Harald Summa, CEO of DE-CIX. “DE-CIX Düsseldorf will give providers in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region a platform that will support the regional exchange of traffic. We expect to serve 30 ISPs within 12 months with our new internet exchange. Our goal clearly is to become the leading internet exchange for the Rhine Area. With Interxion Düsseldorf being the most important data hub in terms of connectivity in the Düsseldorf area, it is the ideal place for us to operate the DE-CIX Düsseldorf Exchange, as it gives access to more than 50 carriers and ISPs, content delivery networks and content providers."
"We have had a strong relationship with DE-CIX for more than 12 years and in that time, together we have developed Frankfurt as one of the world’s central IP data hubs," commented Peter Knapp, Managing Director for Interxion Germany. "With DE-CIX Düsseldorf going live Interxion can now count 19 of Europe's leading Internet Exchanges within its connectivity community, giving access to over 2,000 ISPs and providing unique and cost-effective peering opportunities to customers across Europe."
