CDS to Take Data Security to New Levels at Infosecurity Europe
« Posted: April 14, 2010, 07:00:16 PM »

Certified Digital Security (CDS), exhibiting at Infosecurity Europe for the first time later this month, is set to unveil its exciting new breakthrough version 3 data security process.

With digital security a key issue for all organisations, from SMEs through to large multinationals, CDS offers an assured and standardised system for developing a secure infrastructure that is affordable, adaptable and recognisable.

It is the only company throughout Europe that provides such an objective and simple-to-use security certification system, allowing organisations to showcase themselves to contractors as security conscious and protected from risks.

Set in three stages – Standard, Enhanced and Advanced – CDS has developed nine security levels, enabling the implementation of digital security to be an undaunting step-by-step process, audited by approved external professionals.

The levels cover security must-haves such as antivirus protection, encryption, control of digital assets and related usage policies through to more involved security where system configuration must be secured against alteration.

Respected information security expert Steve Armstrong, Managing Director of CDS, has over 15 years’ experience in the industry, including working as an Infosec specialist for the RAF. Steve is also an international instructor with SANS, a frequent member of the Infosec Hacker Panel and a visiting lecturer for both the University of Westminster and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

“We are delighted to be at this year’s show for the first time and are looking forward to encouraging visitors to take their first steps to bringing assured levels of security to their organisation and those of their subcontractors,” said Steve.

“We recognise that for some businesses and organisations, securing digital assets can seem a daunting, complicated and expensive task, meaning they often do nothing and as a result leave themselves vulnerable to attacks and breaches.

“In the current economic climate a lack of action or demonstrable security could lead to a loss of business as both customers and buyers are concerned about information security, preferring to do business with those that can show that they take IT security seriously.”

CDS Director of Audit Services Martyn Smith added: “Through the CDS scheme, security can be approached objectively through a set of standardised best practice requirements with guidance on what is needed to incrementally secure digital data from Standard to Advanced levels at a rate that meets budgets and risk tolerances.”

All requirements needed to meet the lower CDS standards are easily accessible online for free so organisations can move at their own pace using internal or external resources.

Once an organisation feels it has implemented the required measures, they can then apply to be visited by an independent Approved CDS Auditor who will check that all the criteria have been met. If approved the organisation will be awarded with a certificate, be given permission to display the CDS logo and will be included on the database of CDS verified organisations.

CDS Standard level certification costs less than £3.50 a day for most SMEs. For more information visit the CDS team on stand K50 at the show and catch a first glimpse of the new version 3 CDS data security process.
