Major milestone announced at Broadband World Forum
Paris, France and Shanghai, China - October 26, 2010 - Cambridge Industries Group (CIG), the world's largest independent supplier of Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) Optical Network Terminal (ONT) equipment to global OEMs, today announced that its GPON ONTs delivered over last two years has topped one million units.
Since its founding in 2005, CIG has grown from a start-up to become an industry leading supplier of Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) customer premise equipment (CPE) to Tier 1 and Tier 2 telecom equipment providers, who, in turn, market these products to the telecom carriers. CIG offers the most advanced ONTs in the industry, interoperable with practically every GPON OLT on the market, and at the most competitive price points. This is all accomplished via its in-house innovative technologies and advanced manufacturing capability.
Dr. Gerald Wong, Chairman and CEO of CIG, said: "We have built a solid reputation among the telecom equipment providers due to our unparalleled R&D capabilities, quality and superior customer service. We now offer the broadest selection of ONT solutions for the worldwide market with over 30 GPON ONT models in production today. We believe that our ability to bring products to market faster and more cost effectively than traditional providers is evidenced by our growing client list and repeat business."
"This past July was our five year anniversary and we recently hit a major milestone having shipped over one million GPON ONT units," continued Dr Wong. "In the past three years alone, our revenue has grown in excess of 125% CAGR and our customer base now includes nearly all the major Optical Line Terminal (OLT) vendors worldwide. We now have over 500 employees, including more than 100 R&D engineers, reinforcing our commitment to remaining at the forefront of this technology."
ONTs are the customer premise located devices used by carriers to serve residential and business customers over a PON-based (Passive Optical Networking) system. PON is a point-to-multipoint technology, in which unpowered or passive optical splitters are used to connect a single optical fiber to multiple premises. PON is being adopted by telephone companies globally due to its cost effectiveness in extending fiber-based service delivery all the way to the customer location.
CIG's ONT terminates the PON at the home or business location, and enables integrated voice, video and high-speed internet access. The ONT is a critical component of the "triple-play" roll-outs which are currently being deployed by major carriers worldwide.
