Cambium Networks and Kordia Win 2013 Global Telecoms Business...
« Posted: June 06, 2013, 07:51:55 PM »

6 June 2013 — Cambium Networks, leading provider of wireless broadband solutions, and New Zealand’s Kordia Limited have been announced as a 2013 Global Telecoms Business Innovation award winner in the Wireless Network Infrastructure Innovation category. The win recognises the commitment to delivering broadband to rural communities in Papua New Guinea, which plays host to some of the most difficult terrain and challenging weather conditions anywhere on Earth.

The joint venture, which was launched in July 2012, focused on bringing the Internet to Tabubil, which lies to the North West of Papua New Guinea and is surrounded by virtually impenetrable jungle. Specifically, the project was centered on improving the town’s infrastructure to help local students with their education. Cambium and Kordia delivered a totally unique transportable wireless transmission system (KorPower), providing off the grid power which in turn provides WiMAX, WiFi, GSM or other platforms. At its very heart is the Cambium PMP 320, bringing a cost-effective, licensed spectrum, outdoor wireless broadband access network solution.

“This award recognises our commitment to delivering innovative wireless solutions to unconnected and isolated communities around the globe. With our unique pioneering technology and Kordia’s expertise, we have delivered a system that has transformed people’s lives,” says Roy Wittert, VP Sales and Marketing APAC at Cambium Networks. “Working collaboratively, we have brought the Internet to Tabubil, enabling many people to join the digital world for the first time, and allowing its young student population to maximise on their educational potential.”

The Global Telecoms Business Innovation Awards, established in 2007, recognise innovative projects in the telecommunications industry globally, involving service providers and their technology suppliers.

Alan Burkitt-Gray, editor of Global Telecoms Business, commented: “This is the seventh time we’ve run our Innovation Awards and each year we’ve seen that the industry is working harder and harder to deliver exciting and innovative services to its customers worldwide. Congratulations to all the award winners. The industry is seeing a wave of innovation which is making a huge difference to the companies working in the industry and to all of us in business and as consumers. They are making such a difference to the world.”
