Businesses urged to take advantage of Indonesia’s evolving ICT, digital media and broadcasting markets

Region is determined to become the second-largest digital economy in South East Asia by 2019 and the number one by 2020

Jakarta, Indonesia, 11 July 2016: With Indonesia’s ICT market spending expected to grow at a CAGR of 12.2% from 2016 to 2020, according to BMI Research, the show director of the highly successful CommunicAsia and BroadcastAsia events has urged businesses to take advantage of the country’s evolving, high-growth ICT, digital media and broadcasting markets.

Several technology vendors such as IBM, Siemens, Huawei and Indosat have already entered the market, with Smart Cities among the solutions launched. These business ventures further support the recent national campaign ‘1000 Digital Start-ups by 2020', initiated by the ICT ministry in Indonesia and local start-up incubator company Kibar.

Communic Indonesia – due to take place from Wednesday, August 31 to Saturday, September 3 in Jakarta, Indonesia – will build on efforts to boost ICT in the region by bringing together key players from the Internet of Things (IoT), Machine-to-Machine (M2M), satellite, big data and cloud industries to showcase the latest cutting-edge technologies.

“The Indonesian government is committed to bringing the country into a highly connected era as part of its digital economy vision,” said Rupert Owen, Communic Indonesia’s Show Director. “Communic Indonesia is a gateway into the region for foreign players looking to capitalise on the country’s evolving, high-growth ICT, digital media and broadcasting markets.”

Demand for software services in Indonesia will be driven by increased affordability, rising household income and enterprise modernisation, and economic development as a result of Rupiah stabilisation and appreciation, according to BMI Research.

Its findings are backed by IDC, which predicts the Indonesian government will take ICT investments more seriously, pointing to emerging government opportunities in the telecommunications, broadband network, IoT, M2M, mobile apps, e-commerce and digitalisation markets as evidence, with plenty of scope for vendors to host their products and services in the region.

Communic Indonesia – a two-day forum hosted by industry body Masyarakat Telematika Indonesia (MASTEL) and supported by the FTTH Council Asia and The Ministry for Information and Communication in Indonesia – will look to bring together ICT professionals and showcase the latest technologies.

More than 12,000 trade visitors are expected to attend the show, along with more than 250 exhibiting companies from 11 countries including China, Russia, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Italy, Malaysia. Philippines, Sweden, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and USA.

“With 4G access and IT development, Indonesia is determined to become the largest-digital economy in South East Asia by 2019, and the number one by 2020,” concluded Owen. “As such, Communic Indonesia provides a timely, networking platform for industry stakeholders and professionals to engage with each other on a multitude of relevant industry issues.”
