White Space Growth
Brazil continues to be the largest market for data centers in Latin America and accounts for 40% of the regions data center white space according to the latest research from DCD Intelligence.
The Latin America Key Trends report identifies that although Brazil is still the largest data center market in the region, the highest rates of growth in white space are found in the smaller markets of Peru and Chile which have witnessed 31% and 24% growth respectively. Regionally, white space is projected to increase by approximately 12% per annum to 2016.

Power Requirements
The report estimates that current data center power requirements for the region are now 2.6GW, an increase of 16.4% from 2012.  Brazil accounts for 43% of data center power requirements but the highest growth is seen in Peru and Central America (22% respectively). Regional data center power requirements are expected to reach 3.85GW by 2016.

Outsourcing
Just under 21% of all racks in Latin America are outsourced to a colocation provider. Brazil accounts for a high proportion of outsourced racks and almost 50% of all newly outsourced racks in the region are within this country. However, growth is being hampered in some instances by a lack of suitable colocation facilities. According to Nicola Hayes, MD of DCD Intelligence, although there is increasing demand for colocation in the region, there is still a lack of suitable facilities. Hayes states “Although demand is high, countries such as Colombia are facing problems due to a lack of colocation facilities and in some instances companies are forced to choose a provider in a neighbouring market. It is expected that this situation will improve over the coming 12 months."

Latin America Key Trends Report
The Latin America Key Trends report offers data and analysis on key data center growth metrics including space, power, outsourcing, investment and new technology implementation.
