Underscoring the massive and still fast-growing mobile market in China and the Asia-Pacific region, Wi-Fi offload and roaming innovator Accuris Networks (
www.accuris-networks.com) has formed a strategic partnership with Autelan, (
www.autelan.com) the biggest Chinese-based Wi-Fi infrastructure provider. Accuris Networks will team with Autelan to bring seamless, secure Wi-Fi offload to Chinese mobile carriers such as China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom as well as carriers in the Asia-Pacific region and Africa. Carriers will benefit from Autelan’s wireless access points and Accuris Networks’ AccuROAM™ Wi-Fi offload platform because it enables any type of Wi-Fi access technology to work as a full extension of cellular, GSM or CDMA networks for billing, policy and authentication -- not just for use with data services but for voice and messaging also.
The partnership was formally announced in Beijing during the Enterprise Ireland Trade and Investment Mission to China led by Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD, Ireland; Dr. Bing Xiang, Dean of the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business and executives from Accuris Networks and Autelan.
The creation of this new partnership was spurred by strong market growth in China, which is now the world's largest mobile phone market by revenue. According to a recent report from mobile operator association GSMA, China had 630 million unique mobile subscribers at the end of 2013, which is about 46% of the population. Mobile operators and the Chinese government have been making substantial investments in new infrastructure, which fuels subscriber expansion and demand for new technology.
Welcoming the announcement Minister Bruton said: “Increasing exports by Irish companies is at the very centre of the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs, and fast-growing markets like China play a huge part in this. In the last year exports by Irish companies here grew by 23% - our aim now is to build on this performance by our innovative companies. Today’s announcement by Accuris Networks, an innovative technology company based in Dublin, is a great example of the pioneering work being done by our great companies. I wish them every success with this project and look forward to working with them in the future”.
“The expanding mobile market in China has paved the way for Autelan's interest in the AccuROAM technology,” said Larry Quinn, executive chairman of Accuris Networks. "The AccuROAM platform gives subscribers automatic and secure access to Wi-Fi hotspots by using subscriber SIM credentials as the means of authentication. Accuris Networks is the only provider globally to provide this level of security and ease of access when connecting to Wi-Fi. Attaching to a hotspot is instant and in the case of some new Asian phones equipped for Hotspot 2.0, it isn't just automatic, it's lightning fast."
“We have a strong history of working with Accuris Networks,” said Rockies Ma, Managing Director of Autelan for International Market. “Accuris Networks’ AccuROAM platform is integrated and proven with Autelan’s Wi-Fi access points, controllers and base stations and is already proving to be a valuable solution for carriers in burgeoning wireless markets, who need to provide fast, secure authentication, yet need to continue to bill and service customers no matter what network they are on.”
