BEIJING/SANTA CLARA, Calif; Cambridge, UK, February 5th, 2014 - AsiaInfo-Linkage, Inc., Asia’s leading supplier of BSS systems, today announced the global launch of its Veris™ Open Operational Platform (O²P), a collaboration platform for mobile operators that transforms Over-The-Top (OTT) services from threats into new operator revenue streams.
O²P enables operators to boost revenues by converging their products with those of the OTT players who in turn get access to operators’ advanced back-office IT capabilities.
A recent industry survey* shows that the overwhelming majority of operators believe in partnering with OTT players, but the journey from concept to reality in this area is not straightforward.
O2P is built to simplify and streamline the partnering process. The platform supports a variety of retail and wholesale business models between operators and OTTs. Its design ensures that operators can easily scale the number of partners they can work with, and vastly reduces the complexities of engaging with multiple partners. O²P eradicates the IT complications involved in forming and operating multi-party collaborations, and can save more than 50% of operational costs for operators.
“It’s clear that operators want to support standardization and industry-wide initiatives, but they also need to create competitive advantage from their OTT partnerships. That means they need to offer more value than other operators, and they need to be easier to work with,” said Dr Andy Tiller, vice president of product marketing for AsiaInfo.
O²P facilitates the creation and development of ‘converged’ or ‘mash-up’ products, which consist of the operator’s services (mobile data, QoS, charging etc.) and OTT services (e.g. music streaming, VoD etc.). The open platform becomes an API hub for connecting the IT systems of operators and other Digital Service Providers (DSPs).
“Many operators work with a handful of OTT partners today – for example a preferred music partner such as Spotify, Deezer or Wimp. But creating an attractive overall package which combines the partner’s service with operator value adds – such as a special tariff, QoS and charge-to-bill – generally involves manual customization of the BSS systems, which is expensive and not scalable to a large number of partnerships,” said Dr Tiller, for AsiaInfo.
Operators can cross-sell OTT services and content to their existing customers, and gain a share of that revenue; win new customers through innovative products, plans and offers that include OTT services and content; and monetize their IT investments by opening them up to partners.
Veris O²P has already been successfully implemented in China, and is now being made available globally. More than 20 OTTs already converge their digital services with China Telecom’s communication products across its fixed, mobile and IPTV services. Sharing its network and back-office systems has enabled China Telecom to add significant value to OTT partnerships and monetize their services at a scale that was not previously possible.
