19th March 2012 - Global soft commodity trading house and supply chain manager, Armajaro Trading Limited (“ATL”), is taking another important step to reduce its environmental impact and strengthen its commitment to being a responsible business leader. ATL, specialising in the sourcing and delivery of cocoa, coffee and sugar, has selected Greenstone Carbon Management to enable it to measure, manage and report its corporate carbon emissions across all global operations.
ATL, one of the world’s largest traders in soft commodities, has origination and exporting operations in all the major cocoa, coffee and sugar growing countries across Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas and employs over 2,000 people. By implementing Greenstone’s web-based Acco2unt solution, ATL will be able to measure, monitor and report its energy, business travel, waste and water data across all parts of the organisation, from anywhere in the world.
Acco2unt will also enable ATL to identify ‘hot spots’ and focus on key business activities for carbon reduction; ensuring meaningful targets are set and the associated carbon, consumption and cost savings are realised.
Nicko Debenham, Director of Development & Sustainability at Armajaro Trading Limited, comments: ‘Our customers are increasingly asking us for more detailed information on environmental impact as they come under greater pressure from retailers and consumers to demonstrate their environmental responsibility. Just as we have led in the traceability area, we are committed to ensuring that we will be able to provide transparent, auditable, robust carbon, energy and water information to demonstrate best practice in our field. Greenstone’s Acco2unt solution will enable us to achieve this in an accurate and cost effective way.”
Matthew de Villiers, CEO at Greenstone says: ‘We are finding that as the carbon management focus broadens to include supply chains, the global trading companies, such as Armajaro Trading Limited, are under increasing pressure to track and monitor the carbon emissions of their operations. ATL has shown a real commitment to reducing their carbon emissions and implementing Acco2unt will ensure a robust system is in place to measure, monitor and report their progress; identifying carbon reduction opportunities and realising associated financial benefits across the global business.”
