ARM and Broadcom Representatives Elected to HGI Board of Directors
« Posted: November 14, 2013, 10:03:13 PM »

The members of Home Gateway Initiative (HGI), the leading global organisation shaping the way that IP services are delivered to the home, have elected representatives from Broadcom and ARM as members of the board of directors for HGI.

Both ARM and Broadcom are expected to continue to play important roles in HGI’s current work programme. Many areas of HGI’s work, including the Smart Home platform for delivering advanced services in the home, the media gateway to improve handling and storage of video, energy efficiency, and security requirements for Home Gateways have important dependencies upon the microprocessors at the heart of home devices.

“These two companies are world leaders in microprocessor technologies, which are essential components of the digital home, from home gateways, to digital televisions and set-top-boxes, to smartphones. We welcome them to the HGI board,” said Luca Giacomello, Chairman of the Board of HGI.

ARM and Broadcom join existing HGI board members representing Telecom Italia, Deutsche Telekom, Orange France Telecom, DSP Group, Advanced Digital Broadcast S.A., BT, NEC, Portugal Telecom and NTT.

“ARM is pleased to be working closely with HGI, which is identifying specific architecture and performance requirements in Smart Home systems, as well as defining the strategy for the integration of telecommunications platforms with application providers. Standards in these areas will benefit the broad ARM silicon and software ecosystems, which are driving the creation of exciting connected products for consumers’ homes,” said Charlene Marini, Vice President, Marketing, Embedded Segment, ARM and HGI Board Member.

“As a leading provider of solutions optimised for home networking, Broadcom is honoured to collaborate with HGI leadership in establishing the standards and technology required to enable the next generation digital home,” said Stephen Palm, Ph.D, senior technical director, Broadband Communications, Broadcom. “We look forward to continuing the innovation that allows consumers to seamlessly connect with the world’s best entertainment and online experiences.”

At HGI’s recent Shenzhen meeting, HGI members and companies from the Chinese broadband ecosystem strongly interacted. At its recent meeting in Malmo, Sweden in September HGI hosted an open summit to demonstrate and discuss some of the latest Smart Home solutions and technical specifications coming to market. The next meeting is scheduled for Santa Clara, US between 9 – 13 December 2013.
