AMD: Windows Vista Not as Stable as Windows XP - On the Advanced Micro Devices drivers foundation
________________________________________________________

Driver performance in Windows Vista compared to Windows XP is one of the subjects addressed by Henri Richard, executive vice president and Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at AMD, during a company webcast event for bloggers.
In terms of performance, Windows Vista has suffered numerous comparisons with the predecessor operating system, Windows XP. And it is only natural for this to happen as Vista is designed to represent the evolution of the Windows platform and the next step from XP.

But when it comes to performance, Vista users have failed to be convinced over the superiority of the operating system over XP. Windows Vista does leave something to be desired. It is not a generalized feeling, but one that is focused on details across the operating system.

This is also one of the reasons fueling the customer belief that the first service pack for Windows Vista should be the right moment to jump to the new operating system. At this time, Microsoft only revealed that Vista SP1 is coming by the end of 2007, but that it will fail to deliver major enhancements to the operating system.

Still, some aspects of Vista are intimately connected with third-party products. The operating system is in fact tributary to the hardware architecture, and in this context, drivers represent a vital piece of the Vista performances. You will be able to see and hear Richard commenting on the issue at hand in the video embedded at the bottom, courtesy of Long Zheng.

"The polemic around driver has been one that is central to Vista deployment," stated Richard revealing that he has tested the operating system both at home and in the enterprise environment. "I would qualify the current Vista drivers as very good. Not quite as stable as XP's, but almost thre. And i think that it is just a matter of time."
