Mobile World Congress, BARCELONA, Spain – February 28, 2012 – Aepona, the software platform pioneer and global market leader in monetizing cloud and network services, announced today that the Small Cell Forum, the independent industry and operator association that supports small cell deployment worldwide, has selected the company to provide the Reference Implementation platform for its recently-announced Developer API Initiative.

Through this initiative, the Small Cell Forum is exposing a number of the underlying services and capabilities provided by small cell infrastructure to application developers, enabling a new breed of intelligent, context-aware services for consumers and businesses.

One such capability is the Zone Presence service, an API that provides a subscription mechanism for authorized third party applications to receive notifications of user activities within a small cell zone, such as entering or leaving a zone and transferring between access points within a zone.

The small cell APIs have been deployed on Aepona’s platform via the existing GSM Association OneAPI Reference Implementation (see oneapi.aepona.com), which includes developer resources such as tutorials, code samples and a forum, as well as a sandbox allowing application data to be provisioned and applications to be tested against APIs that simulate the underlying small cell capabilities.

At this year’s Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, Aepona and its partner Sixth Sense Media will demonstrate how Sixth Sense Media’s MarketPlaces cloud-based campaign management system uses Zonal Presence APIs to allow merchants to deliver highly targeted, contextually-relevant promotions and coupons to their customers.

Commenting on the Small Cell Forum’s decision to select Aepona as the platform provider for its developer initiative, Andy Germano, Vice Chair of the Small Cell Forum and Chair of the Forum’s Services Special Interest Group said: “We were very impressed by the work that Aepona has done with the GSMA in providing both the OneAPI Reference Implementation and the platform for the Canadian OneAPI service, as well as their market experience in helping Service Providers expose and monetize their core network assets as a commercial API offering. This industry leadership, coupled with their ability to meet our very aggressive timescales, led to the selection of Aepona as the clear winner of our evaluation process”.
