BRACKNELL, UK (April 21, 2010) — ABBYY, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture, and language software, today announced the availability of ABBYY FineReader Engine 9.0 for Linux, a robust software development kit (SDK) to integrate ABBYY award-winning optical character recognition (OCR), barcode recognition, and PDF conversion technologies into Linux-based applications. The new SDK covers over 190 languages for OCR including those with Latin, Cyrillic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, and Hebrew characters.  The product also delivers outstanding capability to read multilingual documents including combinations of languages with absolutely different writing systems (for example, Chinese and German, Hebrew and French, etc.). As a result, FineReader Engine’s extensive language support allows development of truly international OCR applications.

Powerful Barcode Recognition
The ABBYY SDK for Linux recognizes more than 15 1D barcode types and popular 2D barcodes (including PDF 417, Aztec, DataMatrix, and QR Code) detecting them at any orientation on the page throughout the entire document.

ABBYY ADRT® for Reproduction of Logical Document Structure
The new SDK delivers unique ABBYY ADRT (Adaptive Document Recognition Technology), an intelligent synthesis algorithm for reproducing logical structure and original formatting of multipage documents when exporting to Office formats. The new technology brings document conversion to new levels of accuracy and performance. By treating an entire multipage document as a single entity rather than a set of pages, ABBYY ADRT accurately re-creates logical elements of document structure such as headers, footers, page numbering, footnotes, and font styles across all pages.

PDF and PDF/A Conversion with MRC Compression
ABBYY FineReader Engine 9.0 for Linux provides extensive PDF input and output functions such as creation of searchable and tagged PDFs, extraction of metadata, re-creation of hyperlinks and internal links, and support for a variety of security settings. It also offers new MRC Compression technology for PDF and PDF/A while preserving the original visual quality of documents. This makes the SDK an ideal solution for document archiving and storage.
