Only 36% find it easy to add new technologies
LONDON, UK – 27 September 2011 - Only 47% of IT professionals in the UK feel that their IT infrastructure provides the level of flexibility that is required within their organisation according to a study commissioned by storage and data management specialist, NetApp. The study of 200 decision makers conducted by Vanson Bourne, found that only 36% of respondents said that it was easy to add new technologies to their existing infrastructure.
Restrictive legacy infrastructure is the most limiting factor for 21% of respondents, with only 34% saying that they can easily produce performance reports, despite 58% stating that reporting is becoming more important for their roles.
Laurence James, UK Product, Alliances and Solutions Marketing Manager at NetApp says: “The study indicates that respondents require flexible infrastructures which can be upgraded depending on future needs.
IT departments require agnostic storage systems which can easily integrate into their existing hardware. Working with Coventry and Warwickshire IT Collaborative (a shared IT service provider for the NHS), we have been able to develop a flexible storage infrastructure solution which has been successfully integrated to their existing network.”
Richard Newham, Technical Services Manager, Coventry and Warwickshire IT Collaborative says: “With NetApp I have one supplier of all the technology, so I know exactly where to go if we need expert help to develop or expand the system.”
NetApp also provides a solution tool that helps IT departments to measure, manage and quantify improvements in speed and efficiency to their IT infrastructure. The Storage Efficiency Calculator provides tools to assess and understand the environment, calculate the estimated savings and report on changes. This solution allows IT departments to set attainable and actionable goals to manage their IT architecture.
