“Podcasting by definition is time-shifted portable media,” says Master Podcaster, Paul Colligan. “By time-shifted I mean that people can take it whenever they want and because it is portable, people can take the content anywhere they want it. It is not just audio anymore. Podcasting includes video, PDF, TV programs and more.”
Integrating podcasting into your marketing plan pens up an amazing amount of opportunities to be intimate with the customers that media have never delivered before.
Podcasting is important because it is where all customer interaction is going.
We can no longer dictate when, where things happen. Take a look at TV --- no one even watches TV when it happens the first time. Now people watch TV shows on-demand, through TiVo or other recording devices. This puts the customer in total control more than ever. All media is going this way and podcasting is the logical progression of this in the media, allowing businesses and consumers to both say ‘I’ll meet you on your terms; and you meet me on my terms.’
Beyond other media, podcasting can get very intimate with the consumer. With 30 million people driving at least 30 minutes per day, through mobile devices they can now take their whole library with them wherever they are. “When someone who subscribes to your podcast puts the earbuds on and if they choose your podcast, then you get an intimacy that you get nowhere else With email, you’re in the box with hundreds of others, on websites you get seconds to grab them, but when someone takes your Podcast message with them, you are their travel partner and will have the chance to be more intimate with this person than any with other media,” says Colligan.
In the customer-driven world, intimacy is king.
