7 Signs Of A Newsworthy Article
« Posted: August 25, 2008, 03:53:12 PM »

1. Facts – Editors and Journalists like to write their articles including the latest statistics and test results that are published on a certain subject. If you can get these results, write a press release around these statistics and include some of your own personal case studies and experiences — if you do this you will stand a better chance of getting them published.

2. Opinion - Comment on current events. Give your opinion as to why something will and won’t work. Give case studies and predict a future trend.

3. Controversy Editors thrive on controversy … they love it. If you can say or do anything that’s controversial, there will be a good chance that they’ll lap it up … provided it’s newsworthy.

4. Innovation – When you have a revolutionary new product which is unique in the marketplace, there would be a good chance that some editors would be interested in publishing details about it, particularly if you can blend it in with current facts, social issues or current trends.

5. Timing – There are certain times of year when certain issues are hot. For example, near tax time in May and June the newspapers feature articles on tax. After that, during August, the budget is featured. By making note of these issues and including your comments, opinions and a variation to articles already published, you could get an editor to be interested in your article.

6. Relevant to the audience – It is easier to get your article in a publication, if your press release discusses something of interest to readers of a particular section in a certain publication.

7. Interesting information – Write about something interesting; even through different people have different ideas on what is interesting. If you write about a topic that is ‘boring’ to some people, find ways to make it interesting using quotes, anecdotes and make your copy interesting.
