Office 365 Blog:  As part of our vision to deliver the best productivity experience across the PC, browser and phone with Office 365, we’ve been working in partnership with Research in Motion (RIM) to deliver support for BlackBerry smartphones through a new RIM-hosted cloud service for our customers. Details around this new RIM service were first shared back in March 2011, and today we are pleased to let you know that RIM has launched an open beta of BlackBerry® Business Cloud Services for Microsoft Office 365 – a new RIM-hosted cloud-based service for businesses to extend Microsoft Exchange Online to BlackBerry® smartphones and self-manage their BlackBerry deployments in the cloud. Windows XP is 10 years old, remember WindowsXP.nu?

10 years ago Windows XP was released to the market, it RTM’d end of August 2001.  10 years ago when you googled Windows XP, my site WindowsXP.nu was the number spot, above Microsoft’s own site. How could that happen? Well I started writing about Windows XP well before it came out. I registered the domain name the day that Microsoft announced it for their new OS codenamed Whistler. Back then I was one of the few regularly writing about it, besides Paul Thurrot and the guys at Neowin.net.  As you may know WindowsXP.nu became so popular that Microsoft noticed it and claimed the domain name because of trademark infringement. When I posted this on WindowsXP.nu it became worldnews, in the tech world at least. A fan even setup a petition which was signed by 9214 people.  Anyway 2 weeks later I transferred the domain to Microsoft, no I did not get 1 million dollars, in fact I paid 10 dollars domain transfer fee. Legally it was the right thing to do, I would not survive in court. 10 years later Microsoft let the domain name expire and now some Swedish company owns it.  You can still access the content of WindowsXP.nu here: http://old.bink.nu/ beware it’s a messy layout and lot of pics are missing, but sure it’s fun to see all that old “news”   Anyway Windows XP was pretty popular: from September 2003 to July 2011, Windows XP was the most widely used operating system for accessing the internet. As of September 2011, Windows XP market share is at 36.2% after having peaked at 76.1% in January 2007.  Happy Birthday XP

22  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3 on: October 19, 2011, 01:59:42 PM
Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3

iSCSI Software Target is an optional Windows Server component that provides centralized, software-based and hardware-independent iSCSI disk subsystems in storage area networks (SANs).   The Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3 provides storage (disks) over a TCP/IP network. It turns a computer running Windows Server into a storage device which provides shared block storage. You can use Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3 to perform a variety of storage-related tasks, including the following:      Provide shared storage for Hyper-V to enable high availability and live migration     Consolidate storage for multiple application servers (i.e. Microsoft SQL Server or Hyper-V)     Provide shared storage for applications hosted on a Windows failover cluster     Enable diskless computers to boot remotely from a single operating system image using iSCSI  The Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3 is an economical solution suited for a development or test environment and a small, medium, or branch office production environment. It enables storage consolidation and sharing on a Windows Server by implementing the iSCSI (Internet Small Computer Systems Interface) protocol, which supports SCSI-block access to a storage device over a TCP/IP network. For details on how to manage iSCSI targets, see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg232606(WS.10).aspx  This download package includes the following items:   Root:      x64:             iSCSItarget_public.msi: Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3 service component for Windows Server 2008 R2.         iSCSITargetClient_public.msi: Virtual Disk Service (VDS) provider, Volume Snapshot Service (VSS) provider, and high-performance computing (HPC) providers to support diskless boot in HPC clusters.             x86:             iSCSITargetClient_public.msi: VDS provider, VSS provider, and HPC providers to support diskless boot in HPC clusters.            Documentation:             iSCSItarget_Gstart_R2.doc: Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3 Getting Started Guide         iSCSI_33_relnotes.doc: Microsoft iSCSI Software Target 3.3 Release Notes            Autorun.inf: Automatically starts Index.htm to display install options     Index.html: Main menu page for installing software.     Bkgd-page-servers-dynagrid.jpg: Used by Index.html.     Copyright.jpg: Used by Index.html.     Wsr2logo.bmp: Used by Index.html.  Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - iSCSI Software Target

A fix for the interoperability issues between Exchange 2007 and 2010 EMC and IE9 is now available

We are happy to report that a fix for the Exchange Management Console (EMC) issues when Internet Explorer 9 is installed is now available. To be specific, we have talked about this in a previous blog post:  Exchange 2007 or 2010 EMC might fail to close with "You must close all dialog boxes before you can close Exchange Management Console"  How does this fix need to be applied?  In order to install the fix, a released version of IE9 needs to be installed on the machine first. Then:     MS11-081: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer: October 11, 2011 needs to be installed. This can be obtained from Windows Update or - if you need to download it for local network installation, the packages can be obtained here. Please note that the packages for client and server OSes might be different, depending on what you need. The installation of this package is REQUIRED for proper operation of the EMC hotfix.    Then download the hotfix here:  http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=2624899     Source:  http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2011/10/17/a-fix-for-the-interoperability-issues-between-exchange-2007-and-2010-emc-and-ie9-is-now-available.aspx

Microsoft Officially Welcomes Skype

Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq “MSFT”) has closed its acquisition of Skype Global S.  r.l. Negotiations of the definitive agreement under which Microsoft would acquire Skype, an Internet communications company, for $8.5 billion were led by investor group Silver Lake and the transaction was originally announced on May 10, 2011. Boards of directors of both Microsoft and Skype previously approved the acquisition.   The Internet has changed video calling for millions of people. Explore some of the numbers and stats showing the scope and impact of how Skype is helping people stay connected.  Microsoft and Skype will remain focused on their shared goal of connecting all people across all devices and accelerating both companies’ efforts to transform real-time communications for consumers and enterprise customers. The completion of the acquisition also marks the official introduction of Skype as a new business division within Microsoft.  “Skype is a phenomenal product and brand that is loved by hundreds of millions of people around the world,” said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. “We look forward to working with the Skype team to create new ways for people to stay connected to family, friends, clients and colleagues — anytime, anywhere.”  Skype CEO Tony Bates will assume the title of president of the Skype Division of Microsoft immediately, reporting directly to Ballmer. The Skype division will continue to offer its current products to millions of users globally. Longer term, Skype will also be integrated across an array of Microsoft products to broaden Skype’s reach and accelerate its growth as a fundamental way people communicate online. Skype employees will continue to be located around the world in offices including Estonia, the Czech Republic, Russia, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States.  “By bringing together the best of Microsoft and the best of Skype, we are committed to empowering consumers and businesses around the globe to connect in new ways,” Bates said. “Together, we will be able to accelerate Skype’s goal to reach 1 billion users daily,” Bates said.   Founded in 2003, Skype was acquired by eBay in September 2005, and then acquired by an investment group led by Silver Lake in November 2009. Skype has made impressive progress, developing new products and revenue streams, strategic acquisitions, acquiring the intellectual property powering its peer-to-peer network, and recruiting an outstanding senior management team.      Source: Microsoft Officially Welcomes Skype Microsoft and Skype will empower people and businesses t

Information collected during a session may also be used to personalize your advertising experience during that session.   In support of these uses, Microsoft may use your information to provide you with more effective customer service, improve the Site and any related Microsoft products or services, perform statistical analysis, and make the Site easier to use by eliminating the need for you to repeatedly enter the same information or by customizing the Site to your particular preferences or interests.     We may use your information to provide you with important information about the product or service that you are using, including critical updates and notifications. Additionally, with your permission, we may send you information about other Microsoft products and services, and/or share your personal information with Microsoft partners so they may send you information about their products and services.   Microsoft occasionally hires other companies to provide limited services on our behalf, such as Web site hosting, packaging, mailing, and delivering prizes, answering customer questions about products and services, and sending information about our products, special offers, and other new services. We will only provide those companies the personal information they need to deliver the service. They are required to maintain the confidentiality of the information and are prohibited from using that information for any other purpose.   We may access or disclose information about you, including the content of your communications, in order to: (a) comply with the law or respond to lawful requests or legal process; (b) protect the rights or property of Microsoft or our customers, including the enforcement of our agreements or policies governing your use of the services; or (c) act on a good faith belief that such access or disclosure is necessary to protect the personal safety of Microsoft employees, customers or the public. We may also disclose personal information as part of a corporate transaction such as a merger or sale of assets.  Information that is collected on the Site may be stored and processed in the United States or any other country in which Microsoft or its affiliates, subsidiaries, or service providers maintain facilities. Microsoft abides by the safe harbor framework as set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce regarding the collection, use, and retention of data from the European Union, the European Economic Area, and Switzerland.   Control of and Access to Your Information    Except as otherwise described in this statement, personal information you provide on the Site will not be shared outside of Microsoft and its controlled subsidiaries and affiliates without your permission.     You can update or remove your Twitter profile at any time by logging into the Site, navigating to the Engagement Client, and navigating to the User Profile Icon, then click on the Remove Account icon next to the account you want to remove. To update your e-mail address or leave the Site, please contact us via the contact details below. We will remove all personal information from the Site should you delete your account, but your classifications and annotations on individual posts, as described above, will remain in the Site in a manner that is no longer associated with you.    Please be aware that this privacy statement and any choices you make on the Site will not necessarily apply to personal information you may have provided to Microsoft in the context of other, separately operated, Microsoft products or services.   Security of Your Information    At Microsoft, we take the security of your personal information very seriously. We use a variety of security technologies and procedures to help protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. For example, we store the personal information you provide on computer servers with limited access that are located in controlled facilities. Additionally, if we transmit sensitive personal information (such as a credit card number) over the Internet, we protect it through the use of encryption, such as the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol.   Use of Cookies    We may use cookies on this Site to enable you to sign in to our services or to help personalize the Site. A cookie is a small text file that is placed on your hard disk by a Web server. Cookies contain information that can later be read by a Web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you. Cookies cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. One of the primary purposes of cookies is to provide a convenience feature to save you time. For example, if you personalize a Web page, or navigate within a site, a cookie helps the site to recall your specific information on subsequent visits. This simplifies the process of delivering relevant content, eases site navigation, and so on. When you return to the Web site, the information you previously provided can be retrieved, so you can easily use the site's features that you customized.   You have the ability to accept or decline cookies. Most Web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. If you are using Internet Explorer, search for “Cookies” in the Help menu to find detailed instructions. If you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to use interactive features of this or other Web sites that depend on cookies.   Twitter Authorization    In order for the Site to post updates to a Twitter account on your behalf or display the home timeline for a Twitter account, you will be asked to allow Twitter access for the Site application. If you choose to allow this, the Site will request access to your account from the Twitter service, and you must log in to Twitter and grant access to the Site.  Twitter authorization uses the standard Open Authentication protocol through programming interfaces offered publically by Twitter. The Site does not request your password, and stores only a token provided by the Twitter service. This token does not contain any personally identifiable information. This token is used only to identify operations on your behalf to Twitter.   When you authorize Twitter, the Site may store and present publically-accessible tweets that would appear in your home timeline. The Site will not access, present, or store protected tweets or direct messages.  Changes to this privacy statement  We may occasionally update this privacy statement. When we do, we will also revise the "last updated" date at the top of the privacy statement. For material changes to this privacy statement, we will notify you either by placing a prominent notice on the home page of our Web site or by directly sending you a notification. We encourage you to periodically review this privacy statement to stay informed about how we are helping to protect the personal information we collect.    Contact Information  Microsoft welcomes your comments regarding this privacy statement.
