Karlsbad, Germany, 23rd June 2015 – By means of its new dynamic interface, Plunet has integrated key functions of the Across Language Server in the Plunet BusinessManager. In this way, translation departments and language service providers can control and automate their translation processes even more efficiently.

The Plunet BusinessManager has been developed especially for the translation and localization industry. It combines business, workflow, and document management, thereby ideally supplementing the Across Language Server translation management system. At the process level, operational steps such as the text analysis, translation, quality assurance, and release in Across interact with the administrative steps of pricing, quotation, order, and billing in Plunet. In this way, users can link all business and production processes without switching between the systems. The automatic synchronization prevents redundant information. Standardized workflows can be defined and the progress can be viewed in the entire project.

16  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / ip.access’ presenceCell™ is shortlisted for Mobile Innovation award on: June 17, 2015, 05:23:33 PM
Cambridge, UK, 17th June 2015 – ip.access has been recognised for delivering valuable customer insight through its latest product innovation – the presenceCell™ bringing brands closer to the consumers they are trying to reach.

The small cell and presenceCell™ end-to-end solution provider has been nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Collecting and Use of Data in this year’s Mobile Innovation Awards after presenceCell™ was successfully deployed in Vodafone Turkey’s retail stores in February, earlier this year. The Mobile Innovation Awards will be announced at a ceremony at The Roundhouse Theatre, in Chalk Farm, London, on 6th October, 2015.

The cells connect with customers’ mobile phones allowing the secure collection of valuable data about each customer. This data, which is anonymised at source within the presenceCell™ is used to create insight into consumer shopping patterns, revealing how many people visit stores or shopping malls and how often.

Gavin Ray, SVP Products & Marketing at ip.access, said: “Retailers are always looking for innovations and better ways to understand their customers to better meet their needs.

“The Mobile Innovation Award nomination is testimony to the hard work carried out by our development teams, and proves that international retailers are opting to use carrier based solutions with seamless integration instead of the iBeacon and Wi-Fi alternatives.”

ip.access also announced earlier this month the signing of a multi-million dollar small cell contract with Batelco, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s leading integrated communications operator, as well as winning the Small Cell Forum’s Social Impact Award alongside leading telecom software developer, SiRRAN, at the Small Cell Industry Awards 2015.

Cambridge, UK, 3rd June 2015 – Small cell end-to-end solution provider, ip.access, today confirmed that it was now accelerating the roll-out of a multi-million dollar small cell contract in Bahrain with Batelco, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s leading integrated communications operator.

With the commercial deployment of public access 3G Enterprise small cells well underway across the Kingdom of Bahrain, the contract also covers residential and SoHo indoor deployments across the region. Furthermore Batelco have also commenced a LTE Lab trial with a view of rolling out ip.access LTE small cells during 2015.

Acknowledging the role of the small cell in delivering guaranteed indoor coverage and capacity for key customers, Batelco’s A/CEO Muna Al Hashemi said: “Small cells give the flexibility to provide coverage exactly where our customers need it and mean we can maintain high quality of service levels at all times and in all locations.

“Throughout our selection and evaluation process, it was important to work with a vendor that could deliver not just best in class technology for small cells across all our different use cases but could also work seamlessly with Batelco and our existing suppliers to integrate the solution with our network,” added Mrs. Al Hashemi.

ip.access CEO, Simon Brown said: “This is more evidence of ip.access growth in the region and a confirmation in our ability to deliver an end-to-end solution across the full range of public and private access small cells is paying dividends.

“This experience of delivering and managing the mass-market roll-out of small cells means that we understand this layer of the network better than anyone else,” he added, and that enables us to bring that experience and expertise to bear in all our global deployments.”

18  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / Development Platform released for Cortus APS Processor IP Cores on: June 03, 2015, 03:59:29 PM
Montpellier, France, 3rd June 2015 – Cortus, a technology leader in low-power, silicon-efficient, 32-bit processor IP, announced the availability of a Development Platform for Cortus’ APS processor cores today. The Cortus Development Platform comprises a board based on a Xilinx Spartan-6X75, the Cortus Eclipse IDE and Cortus GCC toolchain. The board includes an I/O footprint compatible with the Arduino Due enabling the wide choice of Arduino Due-compatible shields to be used to extend the platform.

Software development is a major part of the development of a system-on-chip (SoC) or an ASIC with an embedded processor. Cortus 32-bit processor IP cores have been designed from the outset for embedded processing applications based on coding in C or C++. The APS cores are a volume-proven basis for a wide range of applications including smartcards, video processing, smart sensors, touchscreen controllers, wireless, security, industrial control and Internet of Things (IoT). The new platform enables software developers to rapidly develop drivers and to integrate software and hardware before the SoC design is prototyped.

The Cortus FPGA board is based on the Xilinx Spartan-6 X75 and includes 1 Mbyte synchronous SRAM as well as a 32 Mbit SPI flash memory. The flash memory holds the FPGA configuration and can also be shared to hold the application software. A 10/100 Mbits/s Ethernet transceiver PHY is connected directly to the FPGA and is fully compatible with the Cortus 10/100 Ethernet MAC IP block. A USB interface provides a JTAG interface fully compatible with Cortus development tools under Windows and Linux. Additional I/O connectors enable the DDR2 memory to be up to 512 Mbytes.

“Developing drivers, porting software and validating the HW/SW interface is one of the key time-to-market challenges of developing SoCs with embedded processors”, said Mr. Christopher Kopetzky, Vice President of Engineering at Cortus. He adds, “The new platform combines Cortus’ proven SW development tools with the ability to extend the board through Arduino Due-compatible shields and DDR2 memory.”

With an APS23 requiring 19% utilisation and APS25 requiring 29% utilisation the Cortus platform provides ample capacity for all APS cores. The capacity of the Spartan-6 X75 is sufficient to allow multi-core systems to be emulated on the FPGA board. The ability to extend the memory can be used to include a USB 2.0 PHY in combination with a Cortus USB 2.0 controller in order to create a prototyping platform for embedded Linux systems. Furthermore the platform can incorporate IDEs from Cortus’ partners as an alternative to Cortus Eclipse.

Cortus licenses a range of low power, silicon efficient, 32-bit processor cores supporting a range computational performance and supporting different system complexity. The cores start from entry-level 32-bit cores suitable for upgrading 8-bit cores to cores supporting caches, co-processors and symmetric multiprocessing systems. They share the simple vectored interrupt structure, which ensures rapid, real time interrupt response, with low software overhead.

All APS processor cores interface to Cortus’ peripherals including Ethernet 10/100 MAC, USB 2.0 Device and USB 2.0 OTG via the efficient APS bus. The Ethernet MAC allows the chosen physical interface to be connected using either the Medium Independent Interface (MII) or Reduced Medium Independent Interface (RMII). Flexible memory interfaces with two independent DMA channels enable system design to ensure low CPU overhead reception and transmission without any danger of frames being lost. Hardware address filtering enables a single interface to respond to multiple MAC addresses.

Cortus will be exhibiting at the 52nd Design Automation Conference (DAC) in San Francisco, California from 8-10th June 2015 at Booth #2503

A ‘People’s Choice’ award will also be presented on the night, as voted for by audience members.

Simon Bond, innovation director at SETsquared, said: “The number of young people going on to set up their own businesses straight from our five partner universities is increasing year on year and it’s refreshing to see so many young people being fearless and taking the leap. While the entrepreneurialism route is often perceived as a risky one, there is more help out there now for budding entrepreneurs than ever. With the right support, mentoring and access to funding there is no reason that students and graduates can’t develop their start-ups into national and international businesses.”

Norman Armstrong, partner at Grant Thornton’s Southampton office, added: “Entrepreneurship has a huge part to play in the growth of the UK economy over the coming years and is directly related to creating sustainable and dynamic communities. It’s important that all stakeholders and not just the government do all they can to help support entrepreneurship at a local and regional level. That’s why we are incredibly supportive of the work of SETsquared and why we are delighted to provide this fantastic opportunity for one of the shortlisted businesses to win a trip to the USA to further their market research.”
Max Toti, managing director and chief technology officer of Captec Ltd, will be the guest speaker at Thursday night’s event. An alumni of The University of Southampton, he is a visiting lecturer for UK technology universities on innovation, entrepreneurship and wealth creation.

21  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / AsiaInfo is launching Veris Real-Time Intelligence (RTI) on: June 01, 2015, 04:32:35 PM
Beijing/Cambridge/Nice, 1st June 2015 – AsiaInfo, China’s largest telecoms software and services company, is launching Veris Real-Time Intelligence (RTI), a powerful new real-time customer engagement and interaction engine for its award-winning Veris™ BSS product suite.

Veris RTI provides operators the capability to offer relevant promotions and customer support in real-time in direct response to the individual context of each customer based on a wide variety of factors.

Veris RTI aggregates and enriches real-time contextual information streamed from both network and BSS event sources to effect customer engagement through a variety of channels.

The RTI engine orchestrates an appropriate and immediate response to customer needs identified by interpreting information from multiple sources including billing, CRM systems, and the data network. It expands the existing capabilities of the Veris C³ contextual-awareness center, which enables operators to run real-time targeted campaigns based on the services customers are using on their smartphones. Veris RTI adds complex event processing to orchestrate an appropriate real-time response to a sequence of events from multiple sources.

For example, a low data balance (identified by the charging platform) occurring when the customer is watching a video (identified by Veris C3), could trigger an offer to the customer to purchase a day pass for the video app they are using.

The RTI engine combines Veris C3 with a new Customer Engagement Centre (CEC) which assimilates multiple data feeds to identify each customer’s context – such as the status of their billing account, current orders, recent contact with the operator’s call center or other channels, and also any activity on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

“Veris RTI gives operators a fully rounded view of each customer’s context in real-time, enabling the operator to respond with the right help for each individual customer at exactly the right time and through the right channel,” explained Dr Andy Tiller, AsiaInfo’s vice president of product marketing.

“Drawing on multiple data feeds, RTI is able to handle complex logic to ensure the best customer experience. For example, it might make sense to offer some customers an incentive to top up with a larger amount than usual if they are running low on their data balance while consuming data intensive services such as video; while other customers should be offered a day pass, and still others a turbo boost for higher data speeds. The relevant offer would depend not only on the customer’s static profile, but also on their dynamic real-time context.”

The speed of response capable of being delivered by the RTI engine is key to its success. “It has to be true real-time,” said Tiller. “If you are making an offer to a customer regarding a service top-up, it is vital that offer is delivered before the customer tops up anyway.

“Veris RTI is able to deliver that targeted help and support, as well as enabling marketing campaigns and offers, in true real-time, with the capability to adjust any offers if the customer’s real-time context changes. We believe that this is the most powerful customer engagement and interaction solution that has ever been offered to the operator community.”

Ends

Note to editors at TMForum Live:
AsiaInfo will be giving demonstrations of Veris RTI on its booth at the TMForum Live in Nice. AsiaInfo’s booth is number 75 on Level 3 of the Conference Centre.

23  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / University incubated start-ups dazzle big name corporates in new event on: May 21, 2015, 06:10:17 PM
London, 21st May 2015 – A group of universities has launched a brand-new event that aims to get university spin-outs and technology start-ups into some of the world’s biggest corporates.

SETsquared, a partnership of the universities of Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Southampton and Surrey, says that the UK economy could be boosted by large corporates adopting technologies from agile start-ups to boost their productivity, sales and innovation.

Today it held its first ever ‘Open Innovation’ event, which brought 20 of its most cutting-edge technology start-ups face to face with corporates including Barclays, Unilever and Intel. It is the first time such a large-scale event, with start-ups pitching to more than 50 corporates, has taken place. The start-ups, working across a range of sectors including healthcare, mobile technology and environment, had the opportunity to pitch the corporates on how their technologies and products could be adopted by the businesses to the advantage of both sides.

Among the technologies showcased were:
• A software platform that analyses location data by time, not distance. The technology, from iGeolise, is already being used by the likes of Zoopla and Countrywide.
• A social network based on physical interactions that uses wearable technology.
• A measurement system which checks the quality of radiation treatment.

A number of strong leads were made at the event and over the coming months some of the start-ups could enter negotiations with the corporates to sell their technologies.

Already SETsquared’s Open Innovation programme, funded by the IPO, has seen success. Ripjar, part of SETsquared’s incubation programme, has had its advanced social media analysis software used by a large banking corporate as a direct result of the programme.

Tom Griffin, CEO of Ripjar, said: “The Open Innovation Programme enabled Ripjar to form a close relationship with a global institution, which would otherwise have not been possible. We have now developed a collaborative partnership and have adapted our solution and business to meets their requirements.”

Simon Bond, Innovation Director at SETsquared, said: “The Open Innovation Showcase provides a vital link for many start-ups, as talking to companies at an early stage means the products can be refined for use and the wider market. It’s exactly what the UK economy needs, as it helps big businesses streamline and innovate by working with universities, SMEs and start-ups.”

Corporate quote
Six of the start-ups at the showcase came from the ICURe programme, which is funded by SETsquared in partnership with the Higher Education Funding Council for England and Innovate UK. ICURe is a multi-million pound pilot programme giving early career researchers at the five SETsquared universities access to up to £50,000 each to explore the market potential of their ideas, technologies and products.

24  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / Miura Systems Grabs Number 3 Spot in SME Export Track 100 on: May 18, 2015, 06:13:14 PM
Stokenchurch, UK, 18th May 2015 – Miura Systems is delighted to announce that it has been ranked number 3 in the inaugural Sunday Times BT Business SME Export Track 100, as a firm with one of the fastest growing overseas sales of any small or medium sized business in the country.

Published this weekend, the league table charts, for the first time, those privately-held SMEs that have generated the most revenue from international customers over the past two years.

High Wycombe-based Miura Systems launched its first product just four years ago with a staff of less than ten people.
Since then, the firm has rapidly accelerated to become a leading provider of innovative and highly secure electronic payment devices with a focus on mobile point-of-sale (mPOS).

It now sells into around 30 international markets across five continents, and counts major payment industry players such as PayPal and Swedish mobile payment firm iZettle as customers.

Miura’s annual international sales over the past two years have grown over 250% to top £14 million, and it is rapidly approaching yet another landmark: one million units sold.

“I am delighted that Miura Systems has been placed in the top 3 of the inaugural Sunday Times BT Business SME Export Track 100. The result reflects how the imagination and innovation of the founders has not only helped define the shape of the nascent mobile point of sale device market but also captured the imagination of payment service providers across the world,” said Ian Rutland, CEO of Miura Systems.

“It is wonderful to reflect that a UK technology company is taking on and beating the major global players in markets as far afield as Japan, Australia, the US and Asia. I would like to thank our customers and staff for helping to make this happen and we look forward to building on this success in the coming years.”

Miura Systems’ success comes from its vision in anticipating the huge impact smartphones and tablets would have on the payments industry. The first users of its technology were the previously underserved businesses such as plumbers, decorators and yoga teachers, who could quickly accept card payments in a cost effective, secure and easy manner by simply pairing Miura payment devices to their smartphones. As mobile payment devices grew in popularity, international expansion and partnerships with new mPOS service providers soon followed.

Partners have been attracted not only by the sleek, consumer oriented design of the products but also the combination of unique software and hardware features that significantly reduces the total cost of ownership of Miura solutions compared to more traditional payment device providers.

The firm’s latest device, the M10, combines mobile, counter-top and contactless payment capabilities to give clients unparalleled flexibility to serve their customers wherever they are and however they want to pay.

Miura’s largest market is Europe, where the volume of chip and PIN transactions is high. But with new clients signed up in the US and Japan, future growth will certainly expand to other regions as the contactless payments revolution continues to spread.

Inclusion in the Sunday Times BT Business SME Export Track 100 recognises achievements to date and the business has the perfect platform for even stronger growth over the next two years and beyond.

Miura Systems is particularly excited about the growth potential of mPOS in developing markets where there is no legacy, fixed payments infrastructure.

About Miura Systems: (www.Miurasystems.com)
Miura Systems are the global leading provider of innovative secure electronic payment hardware to the mPOS solution marketplace. 26  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / A Glimpse of the Future: Successful Across LSP Day in Frankfurt on: May 12, 2015, 05:16:00 PM
Karlsbad, Germany, 12th May 2015 – This year's Across LSP Day was held on May 8 in Frankfurt, Germany. Participants from 20 countries accepted the invitation of Across Systems GmbH to attend the international conference for language service providers. With their presentations, guest speakers from the industry stimulated lively discussions. The future of translation management systems and of the translation market was one the main subjects focused on.

The Across LSP Day offered the participants first-hand Across knowledge: Insight into Across version 6.3 (to be released in fall) and tips and tricks for system settings were interesting for newcomers and experienced Across users alike. Additionally, four guest speakers contributed to the conference program with their presentations. For example, the new machine translation interface between the Across Language Server and Lucy Software as well as the optimized interface to the Plunet business and translation management system were presented. Biraj Rath of Braahmam Net Solutions talked about the challenges and opportunities of the Indian translation market; Marek Gawrysiak of TextPartner sp.j, reported on how the organization Translators without Borders uses language to save lives. The program was moderated by Stefan Gentz (Tracom OHG), whose keynote speech on the future of the translation market kicked off one of the key subjects that were discussed at the conference. The conference also featured a raffle and many opportunities for networking.

"Every year, the LSP Day is a special highlight for us, as the event provides our customers who operate as language service providers with a platform for systematically coming together with other Across users, enabling them to learn from each other and see what others are doing", comments Niko Henschen, CEO of Across Systems GmbH. "In our capacity as a software manufacturer, we put great emphasis on personal dialog with our customers in order to incorporate user experiences and requirements in the further development of the Across Language Server. 27  THE TECHNO CLUB [ TECHNOWORLDINC.COM ] / Techno News / TechComm of Adobe, FCT and Across Celebrates Successful Premiere on: May 06, 2015, 05:11:01 PM
Karlsbad, Germany, 6th May 2015 – Adobe, FCT, and Across are looking back on the first successful TechComm. The companies had extended the invitation for this expert forum on the eve of the tekom spring conference on April 22, 2015 in Darmstadt, Germany. In view of the positive response of the approximately 50 participants, most of whom were technical writers, similar events are being planned in other cities.

A central statement that was highlighted throughout the event was that apart from PDF documents, it will henceforth be necessary to provide or enable access to situation-specific information on diverse media, PCs, tablets, and smartphones.

Within the scope of an application report, Mathias Tancredi, Head of Technical Writing/Documentation at Herrenknecht AG, a globally leading manufacturer of tunnel building machines, explained how his company creates complex documentation with structured Adobe FrameMaker, the editorial system TIM from Fischer Computertechnik FCT AG, and the translation management system Across Language Server. "Mr. Tancredi's presentation impressively demonstrated how important it is to plan documentation and translation processes with farsightedness. If the upstream and downstream processes and systems are integrated from the outset, process steps can be automated in a meaningful way via interfaces, and savings potential can be exploited even more effectively", says Christian Weih, Chief Sales Officer, Across Systems GmbH.

After the application-oriented presentation, the participants were given opportunity to discuss various subjects in nine special expert forums. The main focus was on today's requirements, such as the growing demands on timeliness, quality, online availability, and the dynamic provision of information on mobile devices. The spectrum ranged from the question how documentation can be made "global ready" to how information can be distributed via a modern content delivery portal to the automation of translation processes.
