Touch by HTC (Sprint)
HTC and Sprint hope to get fingers tapping on something other than an iPhone.Maybe it was a case of iOverkill, or iWant-something-new, but we were itching to check out how much fun we could have tapping and sliding on the Touch by HTC, a device whose 3G data speeds, large touchscreen, and unique user interface make it compelling on paper. While this phone offers a number of features beyond business apps, the Windows operating system isn't built to accommodate them, and HTC's efforts to give the OS a mini makeover fall short. Maybe the fact that the Touch still comes with a stylus should have been the first indication that HTC's premier touch device wasn't a worthy adversary.Read Full Review | Compare Prices | View SpecsStay connected and informed with LAPTOP's new RSS News feeds.Covering all the latest industry news and mobile product updates you want to know about. Acer TravelMate 4720-6727
Acer's latest business portable offers a lot to like for under a grand. The TravelMate 4720 shows why Acer is keeping other notebook manufacturers up at night: It's a solid business portable at a very attractive price. Granted, this thin-and-light doesn't have every feature a buyer might want--there is no wireless broadband option or webcam, for instance--but it's got enough features and performance to make its $999 price very enticing.Read Full Review | View SpecsStay connected and informed with LAPTOP's new RSS News feeds.Covering all the latest industry news and mobile product updates you want to know about. Microsoft Zune 80GB and Zune Marketplace Software V. 2.1
Microsoft stepped up its Zune and its eye-catching software, making the second-generation device a serious iPod competitor. We can confidently say that times are changing for the Zune. Commonly considered the underdog of portable music players, the second-generation Zune breaks free from its uncool status and pulls up a seat at the cool kids table alongside Apple's iPod fleet. The 80GB Zune boasts a bigger screen, a new wireless synching capability, and an easy-to-use gesture Zune Pad. Its large size and limited black color aside, the 80GB Zune is simple to use and wirelessly advanced; the new Zune could very well be our new daily music device and PC listening software. Be sure to check out our review of the flash-based Zune as well, which competes most closely with the iPod nano.Read Full Review | View SpecsStay connected and informed with LAPTOP's new RSS News feeds.Covering all the latest industry news and mobile product updates you want to know about. Microsoft Zune
The new Microsoft Zune is flash-based and flashy. The first flash-based Zune is a sleek little number with hot features like video playback, wireless sharing, and wireless sync. The glossy plastic body measures 3.6 x 1.6 x 0.3 inches and weighs just 1.7 ounces--not bad for a gadget that packs an FM radio and Wi-Fi. It's available in black, green, pink, and red, with a squint-tastic 1.8-inch screen that automatically switches to landscape mode for video and photo viewing.Read Full ReviewStay connected and informed with LAPTOP's new RSS News feeds.Covering all the latest industry news and mobile product updates you want to know about. T-Mobile Sidekick Slide
Even with a slightly new form factor and features, T-Mobile's new Sidekick Slide will have a hard time keeping up with other sliders. The latest addition to T-Mobile's Sidekick family is the Motorola Sidekick Slide. The Sidekick, long marketed to hipsters, gained popularity as an easy-to-use texting tool, with e-mail and AIM and Yahoo messaging services that go far beyond simple text messaging. Although a few changes to the Sidekick family are noticeable in the Slide--namely, the way it opens--the rest of the smart phone industry has taken off and now offers what was originally appealing in the Sidekick: easy messaging, simple Web browsing, and e-mail. And while we enjoyed its user interface, the Sidekick is beginning to look like a toy compared with other feature-rich phones on the market.Read Full Review | View SpecsStay connected and informed with LAPTOP's new RSS News feeds.Covering all the latest industry news and mobile product updates you want to know about. Kodak EasyShare V1253 Digital Zoom Camera
This camera delivers detailed 720p video--a first for Kodak--but it falls flat when it comes to photos. Many of today's point-and-shoots share the same specs: 3X optical zoom, image stabilization, and more megapixels than you'll ever need. Kodak has taken the next step by adding high-definition video recording to its EasyShare V1253 camera, which will never replace a standalone camcorder but managed to impress us. We just wish this camera captured better-looking stills.Read Full Review | Compare Prices | View SpecsStay connected and informed with LAPTOP's new RSS News feeds.Covering all the latest industry news and mobile product updates you want to know about.
