Post by: Shawn Tracer on February 14, 2008, 05:13:02 PM

When you are on a job search there are a lot of different ways you can explore finding a new job. You do not just have to stick to the job search engines or e-mailing your resume out. In this article we will look at three free underutilized ways of searching for a job and they are newspapers and trade magazines, starting your own targeted mail campaign, and the Chamber of Commerce in your area. . If you ask somebody 10 years ago what is the best place to look for job openings that would be obviously the Sunday newspaper. Times have changed while most people look for jobs on the Internet you can still find some hidden gems in the Sunday help wanted section. Trade magazines and trade journals are good way to find job openings in specific fields. If there are job openings located in these publications you will know they are targeted to your field of interest.

You should also consider starting a mail campaign to target companies that you are interested in working for. Sit down and make a list of companies in your area that you would like to work for. After compiling your list get their address and phone number and mail them your resume with a cover letter. With each cover letter personalize it to the company and let them know exactly what type of job you are interested in.

Go to the Chamber of Commerce in your area and have a conversation with the director and let them know that you are interested in job openings. The Chamber of Commerce has a lot of resources at its disposal because many small businesses are members at the chamber and they may not be able to afford a large advertising budget for employee searches. Also, at the Chamber of Commerce, check to see if they have a career fair, or a day when you can actually meet the companies that are members.

As you can see looking for a job does not have to be confined to searching on the Internet. There are a lot of resources that you can use to help you locate a job if you're just willing to put the effort in.
