Title: A Lazy Way To Find Article Ideas
Post by: Daniel Franklin on October 29, 2007, 04:16:23 PM

If you write articles to promote sites, you can run into writer's block in a big way. It can get so bad that you can't even come up with any ideas for articles.

I will be the first to admit it. I am lazy. When I start working on an article campaign for a site, I am full of ideas. Check back in a month and I tend to be staring at the wall. Sooner or later, you will run into the same problem. What should I write about? Well, I found an easy, lazy way to find ideas.

In my opinion, the best articles are the ones that are timely. If something big has happened in a particular area related to your site, you should write about it. Webmasters will pick up such articles like mad. Consider the following example.

As I write this, it is late January. For businesses, late January is the time to issue 1099 tax forms to independent contractors. Being a tax subject, most people don't know what the 1099 is, when exactly it is due or how to fill out the form. If you have a business or tax site, you could write articles providing information on these subjects. I did and they are big hits.

So, how do you find timely topics? The news, of course. No, you don't have to watch CNN or some other channel. You can get alerts for any news on certain subjects from many sites. Being lazy, I use Google. You just go to the home page for Google. Click the "news" tab above the search box. On the resulting page, do a search for your central keywords, "tax" in my example above. Once the results pop up, click the "news alerts" button on the left column. Fill out the little box on the following page and Google will send you an email as often as you want with the tax news for the time period you specify. It doesn't get much easier than that.

Whatever system you use for news alerts, you should be able to come up with a few article ideas every few days. The quality of the news subjects you will receive will vary from great to horrible. The horrible subjects tend to be companies announcing something inane. Still, you should be able to find a couple of nuggets every day.
