Famous Four Media, a global leader in the provision of generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs), today announced that the .SCIENCE new generic Top Level Domain, a domain registry that it manages, has reached over domain 250,000 registration (web addresses) in 3 months. This makes .SCIENCE one of the fastest growing domain registries on the planet.

“We are understandably delighted with the adoption by the public of the .SCIENCE domain ending” said Geir Rasmussen, CEO of Famous Four Media. “Our conviction from the start has been that everyone on the planet is a scientist and our approach to .SCIENCE has been to make it as accessible as possible.”

Science is one of the largest and broadest fields of endeavour with over 5.8 million scientific researchers, every one of them driving forward the understanding of the human race. With nearly 1.5 million scientific research papers published each year, in over 24,000 scientific journals, this makes science one of the most diverse of all disciplines. In addition to scientific professionals there are millions of science clubs, back yard inventors and science enthusiasts around the globe, all of them enjoying the thrills of discovery, dissemination and discussion.

“In new gTLD terms breaking the 250,000 registration mark is significant but compared with the millions of scientists around the world it is a drop in the ocean” continued Rasmussen. “We will be working to ensure the .SCIENCE namespace is used to share information and discoveries by scientists in all countries. While we are seeing registrations globally, South East Asia is currently where the majority of registrations are coming from.”

The .SCIENCE gTLD will allow all members of the scientific community at whatever level of involvement to interact under one namespace, no matter what their specialism or discipline, from schoolchildren discovering the excitement of science for the first time; or amateur scientists who are passionate about their pastimes; to professional scientists driven to advancing the understanding of their field through shared findings, research and discussions.

Famous Four Media is keen to work with scientific bodies, charities, professional associations, education authorities and government departments to help support the work that they are doing in the field through the use of the .SCIENCE internet space.
