St Mary’s School Ascot improves IT Management and software deployment with Matrix42’s workspace management solution

LONDON, ENGLAND, 28 January 2015: Matrix42 (www.matrix42.com), a top provider of software for workspace management has announced that St Mary’s School Ascot, is using workspace management solutions from Matrix42 to save time, improve reliability and accuracy for maintaining the school’s IT infrastructure.
St Mary’s School Ascot operates a number of IT labs for pupils and each member of staff is provided with a desktop or laptop computer. Machines require the correct Operating System (OS) and programs such as Microsoft Office as well as educational programs, each of which may change as the teaching curriculum evolves. The number of different applications is a challenge to manage in itself.

Kevin Delaney, IT Support Manager at St Mary’s School Ascot, explains, “We had been using a well-known IT management system but their latest web based offering was difficult to use, and the functionality was neither complete nor reliable. We needed something that could meet our long term requirements and conducted a market evaluation of established IT management systems including Microsoft’s System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM).”
Delaney continues, “A recommendation from a Matrix42 Competence Partner led us to Matrix42 Physical, part of the Matrix42 workspace management suite of solutions and once we saw its capabilities, we realised that it offered a future proof answer to our IT management needs. A Proof of Concept confirmed the software is easy to use, the management console is self-explanatory and the software design shows all the hallmarks of good design that you would expect from a German software developer.”
In a relatively short period of time the school was able to implement and configure the software as well as train users onMatrix42 Physical for core IT management tasks and Package Robot for software deployment. It had an immediate impact, significantly improving how the school managed its IT infrastructure.
Additionally, the IT department is responsible for managing and provisioning new machines and reusing a machine when staff leave. Getting new machines ready for use within the School’s infrastructure is now straightforward thanks to Matrix42. The school has transformed IT management and software deployment from something that was time consuming into an easy, reliable and accurate process.
Delaney concludes, “The biggest benefit we have seen is the time saving aspect. We now have an efficient and reliable process for installing new operating systems and other software applications on to any machine. This has freed up staff to focus on other IT management activity, such as managing servers.”
